Chapter 9: Katniss's POV

Chapter 9

Katniss's POV

I was being shaken, "Wake up Katnip!" A voice said. I knew who it was as soon as he said my name. Gale, only Gale call's me Katnip.

"What?" I said sitting up and rubbing my eyes,

"It's time!" He said,

"OH!" I said I jumped up and grabbed my bag. I slept with my clothes on, because I knew that we would leave at the dead of night. I quietly ran down the stairs, and towards the living room with Gale at my heels.

"Ready to go?" Nico Di Angelo asked,

"Ready as I'll ever be!" I said unable to hold back my grin.

"Well then," He said, "Let's go shadow travel!" And with that, he opened the door and walked outside. I looked at Gale and Peeta for a moment before following him. We all had our backpacks slung over our backs. We got out of the victors village and we were running. I had a watch attached to my wrist and it read 11:55. I looked forward, we were right out side the main square. We were just about to go out in the opened before I stopped, Gale and Peeta ran into me and I grabbed Nico's collar. He yelped,

"What are you doing!" I whispered/yelled into his ear, "There could be peacekeepers storming all around here!"

"What?" He asked, although before I could answer Gale spoke,

"We need to move!" Gale said, I looked forward and there was two peacekeepers looking around with their guns held high. For the last couple weeks they've been parading around our town. One day I caught a peacekeeper whipping a poor young boy. I tried to stop him, although I knew I couldn't do anything. And that's the day I'll most regret, I didn't do anything. I pulled Nico with me into the shadows so they wouldn't catch us,

"They've been parading around our town for weeks." I said, "They had already burned up most of our town, and whipped the other." I looked at Peeta, he was the best person I knew to go for if I ever needed a disguise, "What do we do?" I asked,

"We stay in the shadows," He said, "And we go the long way."

"We only have 5 minutes!" I said in protest,

"And we'll get whipped if we don't." Peeta answered looking into my eyes.

"Fine," I finally said, "We'll go the long way." I saw Peeta smile,

"I'll go first." Nico said, "I'm best with shadows."

"I'm best with the town!" I said,

"I've been here before princess." He said, "I know the fastest way to the woods with out being seen."

"I've never seen you in my whole life." I said getting angry,

"Exactly." He said nodding. I nodded, he started to walk in the shadows. We followed his every move. I wasn't really paying attention to where we were going, although soon we were at the fence.

"Let's go." I said, I quickly ran towards the hole in the wires. I went under it and ran into the woods. I didn't want to get seen. And I know that the peacekeepers would never go to this part of our town. I stopped out of breath by the big tree, I saw Peeta running towards me with Nico at his heels. I wasn't sure where Gale was, although I'm sure he was fine, "You guys okay?" I asked, Peeta had his hands on his knee's and he was breathing deeply. He gave me a thumbs up sign. I looked at Nico, he was sitting on the ground with his back pressed against the tree, I looked back out into the opened field, Gale still wasn't here yet. I could see him in the shadows. The Peacekeepers were near the fence. I guess they saw our movement. Although they didn't see too much, they were looking the wrong direction. I ran to get my bow in case of emergencies, I got it out of the fallen tree including my arrows. I ran back to the big tree and the peacekeepers didn't leave yet. They need a distraction. I thought, I pulled an arrow out of my quiver and lined it up. The peacekeepers can't see us even if they were looking in our directions. It was just too dark. I smiled and fired my arrow, it didn't hit them, it just whizzed past their head. They turned all the way around and ran, I knew it was prefect timing. Because just when they turned, Gale ran.
