"Aubrey!" the mice started to scramble down the staircase. Aubrey could barely even hear anything. The sound of fabric ripping echoed through her head. Constant tugs at her body ripped apart. Cinderella was screaming. Fabric chunks were being tossed into the air. The layers of chiffon flew off the dress. A string of pearls exploded. For a moment, all Aubrey could hear was the heart-shattering sound of lip curling rips.
"Stop!" Cinderella cried.
With one last rip from a sleeve, the stepsisters backed away, satisfied. The step mother's face was unreadable. She had a smirk plastered on her face.
"Ready, darlings?" the stepmother turned away and headed toward the entrance of the house.
"Yes, mother." the orange haired girl replied. She followed her mom with the black haired girl on her tail.
"Hurry, our carriage is waiting." The stepmother said before the door closed.
Aubrey curled into her defensive ball. Her dress was tattered and in rags. She curled up just like she always did when Tabitha would tease her.
"Aubrey!" Cinderella kneeled next to the younger one.
Aubrey looked at Cinderella weakly. "I-I'm fine."
"Why?" Cinderella began to cry. "Why did you push me aside? It could've been me. Why?"
Aubrey held Cinderella's hand. "You have an ending. You need a happy ending."
Cinderella embraced Aubrey. "But you do too," she whispered in Aubrey's ear.
Aubrey tried to stand, but her left ankle screamed with pain.
"I know," Aubrey said. "But not here. I d-don't need a happy ending."
"Well, I think you do." a whimsical voice echoed throughout the room. And in a puff of purple dust, a rather old woman appeared in front of the two girls.
"Fairy godmother!" Cinderella smiled. "Just in time."
"Indeed, dearie. And you, Aubrey," she turned to meet Aubrey's gentle eyes. "Everyone has a happy ending."
