Aubrey felt like crying on the spot. She knew it wasn't the time to be worrying about her sister, but she felt a surge of relief that her sister was okay. And she had a boy. The gleam in his eyes could only mean one word. Love. She had a lover. But obviously, Aubrey was not okay. She arms felt like they were going to fall off. She was hanging by only a band of shadow that hung her about twenty feet in the air.
"Come to a step closer, and I kill her!" Tabitha boomed over the crowd. Tension hung in the air. Peter took a step forward, and Tabitha flicked her hand. The band holding her in the air disappeared. She screamed in her gag, falling down to the crowd. But the band came back and swept her up even higher than she was before. She got secured up there once more.
"I said I'll kill her if you take another step forward. I was generous enough to catch her. But next time, you'll have a new grease spot in this room." Tabitha sneered.
Aubrey felt her finger glow gold. She waved it around for her first spell ever. Although her wrists were tied, a warm sensation tugged in her body and the gag shattered into fragments of light. However, Aubrey had no time to celebrate.
"Tabitha!" Aubrey yelled over the crowd. "Why are you doing this?"
Tabitha turned and faced her. "I thought I shut you up!"
"Well apparently, your spell wasn't as strong!"
Aubrey looked down at her. For some reason, she couldn't see her sister's feet. At first, Aubrey thought it was because of the angle she was at. But then she realized that her feet were not even there. Neither were half of her legs.
"You're..." Aubrey hesitated. "So that's why it wasn't strong."
Tabitha rolled her eyes and shrugged. "Transparent. I know. So I need your magic so I can stay."
Aubrey bit her lip. This decision was going to affect her whole life. Give in? Or not?
"Don't do it!" Peter yelled up to her. "You'll disappear too if you do!"
"Shut up!" Tabitha flicked her hand toward Peter, and a beam of purple light hit the boy in the crowd. A shock wave of gasps echoed through the hall. People started to scramble out, but Tabitha blew toward the entrance, and a transparent solid black wall blocked them off.
"Nobody is leaving until Aubrey makes her choice!" Tabitha scowled. The boy next to her looked fearfully doubtful. Aubrey waved her finger and the name of the boy immediately came to her head.
"Austin! You don't have to do this!" Aubrey yelled. She squirmed around, hoping to soon be able to touch the floor. She hoped her voice would send a message to him.
"You don't have to say anything!" Tabitha thundered. "And my patience has run out. I think, we should start, now."
"No!" Peter, Cinderella and Aubrey both exclaimed in horror at the same time.
Tabitha made an arch with her finger, and an instant obsidian barrier caged in Tabitha and Austin as a shield. Tabitha then pointed both hands at Aubrey, at first nothing came out of her palms. Aubrey began to squirm, desperate to get out. The shadows readjusted themselves to spread her out. Her leg was pulled out from each other and her arms were outstretched. She was in an eagle spread position in midair. A cold sensation tugged through her guts, and a flow of golden light began to stream out from her body. No pain came at first, but then the searing sharp pain echoed through her body. She looked at her arms and strands of her hair. They were all losing color, slowly turning into a black and white theme. She knew what was happening. Her magic was being taken away, and so was her life.
