Chapter 6: You Just Don't Know It

"Dawn," Demetri said my name tentatively for like fifth time. I hadn't said anything for 10 minutes, but can you really blame me! I mean come on I'm in shock right now. I really should say something, I must look like a bloody idiot right now.

"When?" I asked monotone.

"What?" Demetri asked confused.

"When did this happen?" I couldn't put any emotion in my voice.

"I always had a little crush on you, but now that we've been hanging out more, Ive had the chance to get to know you better...I couldn't help but fall for you," he ended helplessly.

I looked at Demetri for a second. Its true we have gotten closer but I cant see him as more than a friend. I just cant.

"Demetri..." I couldn't finish my sentence.

"Give me a chance Dawn. Give me a chance to prove to you how much I love you," he pleaded. He had knelt in front of me and took a hold of both of my hands. His eyes showed love and hope. How did I let this get so out hand?

"Demetri...I-I...Cant," I said whispering. Tears were streaming down my face because I knew I was hurting him. "Demetri, you know I love Aiden even if he might not love me back, but I cant do that to you. You deserve better, I cant offer you anything. My heart belongs to Aiden and if I gave you and I a chance, I know I'm gonna end up hurting you and i don't want that."

He just stared at me with hurt eyes. A cuople of tears were running down his face. I put my hand on his cheek and wiped them away.

"I'm so sorry Demetri. I wish I could love you back your such an amazing guy," i said softly.

He gave me a half-smile then said, "No its okay. I knew you'd never choose me over Aiden, but I still had to take that chance."

I hated hurting him. He didnt deserve this.

"So I guess we should call of this bluff?" he asked.

" I think that would be best," I sighed.

He nodded and then hesitated before saying," I know we were never together for real but I just want to do one more thing before this bluff ends and we go back to being friends."

He slowly leaned toward me and kissed me. I let him. After a couple seconds he pulled back. He stood up, pulled me up, gave me a tight hug. I hugged him back.

"Bye Dawn, Ill see you tomorrow," he said. He pecked cheek and then left. I went to room felling horrible and cried myself to sleep.

~Next Day~

Blade didn't come home last night. I guess he stayed at one of his friends house. Aiden still drives me to school. I noticed he was quiet, but so was I. If he noticed he didn't say. We arrived at school and we only saw Demetri. Skylar was no where to be seen.

"Hi Demetri," I said quietly, "umm where's Sky?"

"At her locker I think she said she needed to get something," he said with a frown on his face. I dropped my gaze from him and stared at the ground. From the corner of my eye i could see Aiden giving Demetri and me weird looks.

"Okay...i got to go," I said and left quickly. Demetri said my name to bring me back. I oculdnt, ineeded my best friend, I needed to talk to Skylar and tell her things ended...badly. I need the comfort only she could give me.

Aiden's POV

Dawn practically ran inside school. Demetri called out to her but she didn't turn back to look. His shoulders slumped and he gave a big sigh.

"Dude. What happened?" I asked so confused. Why did Dawn run away from Demetri? Why were the so awkward around each other? Why did Demetri look so heartbroken?Why....why.......WHY??????

"Dawn and I broke up last night," he mumbled.

"What?!" I asked incredulous. They broke up!!!But (here we go again).....WHY?!?!

Why are you questioning this?!?! Shouldn't you be happy that they aren't together anymore?, questioned my concious.

Yeah but I still wonder what happened. Yesterday they were all lovey-dovey and now they aren't together anymore...something isn't right here!

Oh my god!!!!

What?

You're actually thinking!!!Who are you and what have you done to Aiden!!

HEY! You know what...do me a favor and shut the hell up..yeah!!!

Sheesh rude much, my concious said.

I refocused on Demetri and he looked pissed off. "You heard me," he said angrily. I was still in shock.

"Why?"

"Oh you'll find out eventually," he said sarcastically.

"Demetri what the hell does that mean," I said frustrated.

"Nothing...I cant be here right now. I'm leaving. Tell my sister Ill pick her up after school." He didn't even wait for me to say anything, he just got into his car and drove off.

WTF?!?!?!, I shouted in my head.

Exactly what I was thinking, my conscious said.

This was so damn confusing! What did Demetri mean I would find out why he and Dawn broke up? I needed to tell Skylar what happened. I walked into school and went to Sky's locker. Sure enough she was there.

"Sky did Demetri tell you that Dawn and him broke up?" I asked her as soon as I reached her.

"What?!No!He didn't tell me crap!" she yelled.

"Sky keep it down will you! And they barely broke up last night! HE didn't tell me why though."

"Dawn," she whispered, "she must have finally given up."

"What are you talking about?"

"You'll find out eventually.

"Okay now I know you are related to Demetri, he told me the same thing," I said a little bitterly.

She laughed a little then looked down the hall. She turned to face me quickly and winked.

Dawn's POV

I took a little detour and stopped by the cafeteria to get some breakfast. Some of my classmates came up to me and started chatting. After a couple of minutes I said bye and started walking toward Skylar's locker. I turned the corner and saw Aiden and Skylar talking. I stopped when I saw how close they were standing...a little too close. Sky looked my way and I jumped to hide behind the wall.

I waited a few seconds and then peeked around the corner. I guess she hadnt noticed me. Aiden was sranding even closer than before and they were both smiling at each other. My gut twisted and I already knew what he was going to do.

He leaned down and kissed Skylar on her lips. I put my hand over my mouth to keep a sob from escaping. How could Skylar do this to me?! I thought she was my friend!

I spun on my heel and ran out of school. Some people gave me weird looks but I didn't care. I just had to get out of here. I ran home, tears streaming down my face the whole way.
