Addressing Poets' Society

We change our words
As soon as we know
That others will be reading them
Why can't we just write?
Instead of taking their feelings
And changing what we think
To the point where we don't even
Know we're doing it
It kills me
We write to change people
But we're changing ourselves
I'm already wondering what you'll think
It's like when our mothers
Told us to be who we are
But criticize our outfits saying
People will judge you
Is self expression that scary?
The people come after one another
Even though we're all the same
Step out of your skin
We all don't even write from our brain
We have one thing
One thing that we know
We share the ability of loving
But also hating and I think
As humans we need to quit it
As poets we need to just say it
As lyricists we need to express
Get rid of the fear
Step into the light
Put your heart on paper.
