Equinox of Alice

Why did you look at me that way
Instead of just telling me to stay
"You messed up, it should've been me"
Had you said, we could meet at the oak tree

We would have rolled in the autumn leaves
The colours of fall, I would have to weave
Colours of scarlet and tangerine
Woven together, just you and me?

Across the crowd I could feel how you felt
The queen of hearts is not the one I dealt
I want to send you the ace of spades
So you could dig our bodies from this conjoined grave

I know now together we're dead
I also know that you're still in my head
Euphoric, for now we're here together
Impatient, for I know that we will get better

I always knew you would be better without me
But I always saw you at that leafy oak tree
Why did you have to wait, Alice?
You could have been a queen with a chalice and a palace.

Instead I lived a life of lies
And you led a life where you constantly cried
But Alice, I know we'll meet again
Then our new life is one we may begin

I swear to meet you by the oak
No matter how much I am broke
Because you will fade the dull
And my heart will be completely full

I'm sorry if I left you completely drained
But now we know just how fast the seasons change
The look on your face went from autumn to winter
When you saw me graciously waltzing with her
