The next day I was suppose to go to school but instead, that morning I had gotten up at 6:30 am, doing my usual morning routine then dressing in a red skirt and white flowy top, white pointed toe red bottoms and doing my makeup. I wore red lipstick like Alexander loved and braided my hair in two French braids. I packed him leftovers that Angela had made the night before. The food I hadn't eaten. It was lasagna and garlic bread with salad, his favorite. I brought along a couple board games and my laptop to watch movies on. I was skipping the whole day to stay with the love of my life while he recovered.Once I arrived at the hospital I greeted the security guards that blocked off that wing of the hospital where Aiden was. I beamed at them and walked past.
Once at the door, I heard a girl's voice in the room. Assuming it was a nurse, I barged in. But to my surprise, it wasn't a desperate nurse.
Andrea.
I seethed at the way she sat beside him on his bed, dressed in a black leather corset and dark jeans. She looked like a dominatrix. With her stripper heels I wouldn't put it beside her. Those silver pointy nails of hers were rubbing his thigh.
I expected her to either jump away from him at the sight of me or smirk but she did neither. When they both looked up at me she grinned. "Alex, it's your sister!" She stood up and bounded towards me hugging me.
I could see him staring at me from over her shoulder and to any body else his expression would've looked impassive and emotionless but I could see the guilt and shame written all over his face.
"Look, she brought food!" She took the lunch bag from my slackened hands and went back to sitting with him. "Wow, it's even warm. How cute."
Rage.
His eyes held an apology but I opted out of our stare off. I rushed out of the room, with no intentions of coming back.
~~~That week I hadn't come back to visit. I didn't want to see him. He was alive and that's what mattered but I didn't need to see him.
That Friday I had been at school. I barely spoke to anyone. At lunch I was picking at my food. I hadn't had the appetite to eat all week. The girls chattered about ways of helping the police with the case but I sat in silence until I felt a hand on my arm. I shot around and was faced with Jonas. I just stared at him until he spoke.
"Hey Lina, how have you been?" He glanced back in forth from his shoes to my face. I noticed the fresh new watch he was sporting and he wore really nice khakis and a really nice shirt and tie. His shoes looked brand new. I knew it was one of the biggest games of the year but he went all out. His hair was cut in a way that made him look more mature and masculine and his facial hair had grown out a little. It was well trimmed to make him look a lot more manly.
My eyebrows were pulled upwards without me even realizing it. I quickly relaxed my face and watched the way his green eyes took in my grey sweats and white tank top. Yes I definitely had let loose this week but it wasn't the best week.
I stuttered to make out wards. I hadn't been speaking much this week. "I'm-- I'm okay. I mean at least I will be." I nodded and swallowed. He was sporting some type of new scent that wasn't him but it smelled strong, masculine and like fall. It made me yearn for fall to come around. It took me back to times going apple picking and pumpkin picking with Alex and us making apple pie with Angela and our old nanny who had been closing in on the age of 50. I made a mental note to put up candles.
"I'm sorry about what happened but I'm glad you're safe." He said.
I gave him a small smile that I couldn't forge to meet my eyes. "You look nice." I told him, changing the subject.
