Me and the girls seats were still free when we returned into the dining hall and that's where we sat, stiff as ever. I wasn't sure whether Andrea took my greeting as friendly or not but next thing I knew, she was sitting across from me and him beside her, right across from Luciana.
I caught Mrs. Anderson's sad eyes gazing at me apologetically from the far end of the table. I gave her a small smile and returned to dipping bread into the green soup that the cooks prepared for us. Really, my stomach wasn't up for anything but I needed to preoccupy myself with something...
He brought a girl home.
"So, Harry, I hear you're taking over your father's company pretty soon." I heard Luciana saying beside me to Harry who sat by him.
When I looked up, the boy was staring at me, eyes burning over the flickering candle light. I held my head up high and looked at Harry instead.
The corner of Harry's lips lifted up as he looked at Luciana. "Yeah, as soon as that old man retires." He remarked with a pointed look at one end of the table. My dad, sitting at the head of the table sees Harry looking and turned his attention to us, as well as all the men sitting at that end.
Everyone laughed at the prospect of Connor Hammell ever retiring.
"As long as your old man's still living son, you won't be holding the reigns. I can assure you." Mr. Santiago commented to Harry.
The table erupted in laughter at Harry's blushing face. He gripped his girlfriend, Megan's, hand and grimaced. "Well, I'm still a shareholder." He mumbled.
Everyone began to converse topics surrounding this. I only watched. My mind was completely somewhere else.
When the waiters came around with the Andersons famous wine, I watched Maria as she allowed her glass to be filled to the brim. She chugged it down so fast and then breathed deeply when she was finished. All the eyes of everyone in our vacinity stared at her.
She looked up at all of us staring and blushed. "What? Its good wine." She muttered.
A humourous gaze was piercing me from across the table beside Andrea. I looked away quickly before I got lost in those enchanting crystals.
I was kind of proud of the wine. The Andersons were like family. Their wine was the best wine made from their vineyards in Australia. The company has been around for centuries.
Maria, seeing that she was holding the attention stick, decided to use it to her advantage. "So, Andrea, how did you and the young Anderson meet?"
My heart hurt.
I look up and catch the boy's gaze now burning me. The fire intensified our exchange.
"Um...well we were both majoring in business, and I was struggling in a few of my classes. I had talked to my teachers. Not too many of them were very helpful and so I was just about to give up when a teacher suggested a tutor. I heard there was this genius in one of my classes. Apparently, he had excelled in all of his classes and was ahead by almost three years. I found this to be insane because I was behind one year. I expected this guy to be some type of uptight dork, but oh no. Instead I received one of America's hottest bachelor." Andrea looked over at the boy--admiration filled her gaze.
