Liam's pov
"Well, I'm not a cat," she says. It's a joke, but she tries to sound serious.
I start to laugh really hard. She's funny. I like that about her. I like a lot of things about her. I'm glad she has a sense of humour. Most girls I knew before couldn't take a joke. "Fine, I'll tell you. Only because you gave me a good laugh and I haven't had one of those in a long time." I take a deep death. I don't really know how to say this, so I just say it bluntly. "I was amused because I don't think your boyfriend likes us hanging out or talking."
Alyssa frowns as confusion rests on her gorgeous face. "Boyfriend?" she ask innocently. "I don't have a boyfriend. Who are talking about?"
It's my turn to frown and be confused. "You don't? But I thought...." I trail off.
"You thought what?!" Gawd, she's so cute she when she's curious.
I thought you and Louis were an item," I answer honestly.
Alyssa's charming laugh rings through the hallway. "Me and Louis?" she scoffs. "Puh-lease. We're best friends and really close. But dating? No way. We definitely don't like each other that way."
I silently celebrate in my mind. "Oh. I just thought... Okay, that makes sense. Sorry. But the fact still remains. He doesn't like us together."
"Doubtful. There's no reason for Lou to be jealous. We're only friends and there are no other feelings between us."
I gawk at her as we walk into class. "Are you serious? I've been here for like a day and a half and it's obvious to me."
"What is?" she asks. She really has no idea what I'm talking about.
"Well first I thought you and Louis were smitten but I guess I was wrong. I still think Louis likes you that way. I'm surprised you haven't noticed before."
"I don't think so Liam. There's no way he feels that way about me. I mean, c'mon. It's me for goodness sake. It's impossible."
She's kidding right? If only she knew that every time I see her I fall for her more and more. "I hope you're kidding. I don't find it so shocking that guys like you. How many boyfriends have you had?"
Her cheeks turn red. I love her blush. "None," she mutters.
"Now that's shocking! You're lying to me," I accuse.
She shakes her head, making her beautiful hair bounce. "It's the truth. I've had zero boyfriends. Until the eighth grade I had zero friends too. Bella changed that one day." Her angelic, American voice sounds distant.
"How so?" I ask. "How did Bella change that?"
Alyssa looks into my eyes. Her green orbs glow. "She became my friend?" she states it as a question.
I roll my eyes. "Smart arse. Tell me the story. Please?"
Alyssa's pov
"How did Bella change that?" Liam's sexy British accent asks.
I look into his intense, brown eyes. They're sincere and make me tremble. "She became my friend?" How else?
Liam rolls his eyes. "Smart arse. Tell me the story. Please?"
I sigh. I really don't feel like telling him about my past. But a part of me says that I can trust him. I follow that part. "It's a long story," I warn.
He grins. "It's a good thing I'm a good listener then."
"Well my mother is a real bitch. She's absolutely horrible. I don't even call her 'mom' unless I'm with her. I always call her Theresa because I don't consider her as my parent. Anyways, one morning in the eighth grade she was screaming at me. Telling me how useless and ungrateful I am. The norm, but then it turned abnormal. She grabbed a fistful of my hair and threw me around my bedroom a couple times. Afterwards she yelled at me to clean up and get up to the bus stop. At the stop I cried and cried and cried. A girl came up to me and started talking me. She asked me what was wrong and comforted me afterwards. I knew who she was because back the. She was pretty popular. Bella became my best friend and my escape from Theresa."
After I finish my story Liam looks troubled. He whispers, "I'm so sorry Alyssa. I had no clue."
I shrug it off. Suddenly, Liam pulls me into a hug. He is warm and inviting. He smells so good. I love being in his arms. I didn't want to pull away. Unfortunately Liam let's go and looks embarrassed. I smile. I can't believe I'm falling for someone like him.
"I'm here for you too," he informed me. I grin. He's amazing.
"Thank you," I whisper.
