Nathaniel was already dreading school before he even got there.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay home today? I would be okay with you staying home today." Nathaniel's dad stated worriedly, as they pulled up to the front doors of the school. "I wish I could Dad. But I really can't do that. It's important that I go talk to Ricky. If not, nothing is gonna be solved."

"Well. I'm proud of your determination, Son."

"Thanks Dad."

They sat in silence for a few more minutes.

"I should probably get going." Nathaniel grabbed his back and unwillingly opened the door. "I'll see you later Dad."

"Be safe."

Nathaniel hiked his bookbag higher up on his shoulders, as he headed into the building.

He was greeted by a bright smiling face.

"Hello, Sir! How was your night? Did you sleep well?" Ollie beamed at him as he entered the school. "You are way too excited today." He responded. "And my night wasn't the best. I barely slept."

Ollie's smile faltered. "I'm sorry. I'll stay with you tonight and make sure you get at least a couple hours."

"That's very sweet of you."

She smiled at him. "Just doing my job."

Nathaniel and Hunter locked eyes as he and Ollie made their way down the hallway. He nodded in encouragement, a smile on his face.

Nathaniel walked into his first bell with Ollie in tow for good luck. She stood in the back just in case things got ugly.

Nathaniel walked up to Ricky cautiously.

"Hey. Can we talk for a minute?"

Ricky's piercing red eyes met Nathaniel's brown ones, and he glared at him. "There's nothing to talk about, Psycho. Scram." He said as he looked back down at his textbook.

Nathaniel sighed and turned around, almost walking away, before turning back and grabbing Ricky by the collar of his shirt. "Listen. I'm not doing this bully stuff. I've been bullied my ENTIRE LIFE for having DID. I'm not going to deal with any more of that from you."

Ricky's eyes widened in sudden fear of the younger boy. Nathaniel growled and dropped Ricky onto the floor, before taking a seat in the back of the classroom. Kids were laughing and pointing at Ricky who sat up in his desk, shielding his face from the other students.

Ollie sat down next to Nathaniel. "I'm very proud of you for standing up for yourself like that. I knew you had it in you."

Nathaniel smiled at her. "I'm done trying to be nice and take the easy way out of things. It's pointless and I don't want to do it anymore."

"Good. People don't deserve your generosity and kindness if they can't even give you the respect that you deserve."

Ricky grabbed his things, and stormed out of the classroom, fuming.

"Well that's not exactly what I had in mind by saying you should have a talk with him, but I'm proud of you." Hunter sat down next to Nate and put his arm around him. "Nicely done."

Nathaniel blushed slightly and grinned. "Th-thanks."
