Chapter 22

"JungleClan is attacking!"

Featherpaw heard a yowl, and she sprang from her nest and burst into the clearing.

Immediately, she was tackled by the four little bundles that were now three moons old.

"Ha! I got you!" Icekit mewed from the top of Featherpaw's head. Featherpaw got to her paws, and started romping around the clearing with the kits on her back. They squealed as she bent down and the kits tumbled off her. As soon as they got off, she was tackled by Sunflight's kits, who were two moons younger. Petalkit stood apart from her littermates, Ashkit and Whitekit. Featherpaw noticed her slip away to Moontail's den. She wondered if the little kit wanted to be the new medicine cat apprentice.

Featherpaw heard a shriek above her, and Owlkit swooped down from the ledge the apprentices slept under. She landed on Featherpaw yowling, "The eagle takes young EagleClan cat to be chick-feed!"

Featherpaw fell dramatically, and Owlkit tugged on her tail. Featherpaw walked backwards with Owlkit holding on to her tail. Featherpaw saw Rainpaw look at her in an amused way before going back into the den to groom.

"Here, my chicks! We can eat cat tonight!" Owlkit mewed to the other kits.

Before the kits could climb over Featherpaw, she saw Rainpaw emerge from the den and she mewed, "Wait, chicks! I'm too skinny! Get the fatter, sleepier cat over there!" She flicked her tail over to Rainpaw.

Owlkit nodded, and the kits sneaked behind Rainpaw. Icekit yowled, but before she could pounce, there was a shadow on rock. An adult hawk was circling closer to the kits.

"No!" Featherpaw yowled as Owlkit, Icekit, and Bluekit were taken into the sky.
