Featherkit woke up and saw Rainkit and Skykit shivering. As she peered closer, she saw that Skykit was soaked, while Rainkit was wet on the side Skykit was on. Featherkit knew that Skykit had to have left through the night, for she smelled the fresh blanket of snow that covered the camp. Featherkit decided to question her sister later, and she went back to sleep. But, just as she was about to go into a deep sleep, a sickening thought filled Featherkit and almost jolted her awake.

Skykit couldn't have gotten this wet because of snow. She would only be damp, and there would be flakes still on her. She would have had to go where there was leaf-fall and trees to find rain! Where has Skykit been?

~~~~~~•
Rainkit woke up hearing her sisters talking. She walked up to the bramble screen if the nursery and listened.
"I woke up and saw that you were soaked," Featherkit mewed.
Skykit was calm, "Yep. I went to make dirt and it was snowing."
"But wouldn't you just be damp, not soaking, if you went out in snow?"
"It was snowing hard, and there were no drafts in the nursery. All of the snow melted."
Featherkit hissed in frustration, but said nothing. Rainkit padded out.
"Hey, Rainkit!" Skykit called.
Rainkit bounded over, "What were you talking about?"
"Oh, just what we should get off the fresh-kill pile. I wanted three voles. Featherkit wanted an eagle. We decided on an eagle." Skykit mewed smoothly.
"Why are you lying?"
"I'm not!"
Rainkit snorted, "I heard your conversation. Why are you lying?"
Skykit shifted her paws, "Sorry. I didn't want to drag you into a pointless argument." She shoved Featherkit. "Someone thinks I did something I wasn't supposed to do."
"Well, she worries too much. It was slushy snow." Rainkit mewed.
Featherkit looked annoyed, "Really, Rainkit? I just wanted to make sure that Skykit wasn't out of camp."
"Sorry for using the dirtplace in slushy snow, Featherkit." Skykit said in an amused voice.
Featherkit snorted and walked away.
"What did you do, Skykit." Rainkit asked her sister as soon as Featherkit was out of earshot.
"Go to the dirtplace."
Ugh, Rainkit thought. She's not giving anything away.
Rainkit was upset that her sister didn't say where she had been.
~~~~~~•

Featherkit looked up as Rainkit padded up to her. "Yes?"

Rainkit's head drooped. "She won't say a thing."

"You agree with me?"

Rainkit nodded, "She has to have been out of camp."

Featherkit was happy that her sister agreed with her, but a bigger question was bugging her.

"Where was she then? We can't follow her scent from last night because of the snow."

"I don't know, Featherkit. I just don't know."
