Across the street, a huge school was staring me down. Admittedly, it wasn't that big, but a new school meant new people. New people meant new 'popular kids', no friends - and the way my life worked - more enemies.

It wouldn't have been my first choice to switch schools. I mean, I wasn't popular at my last one, but at least I had some friends and the teachers were all right. But then there were the money problems, and when a decent paying job opened up over here, Aunt May didn't have much of a choice except to move.

I would miss Midtown High School, but more importantly, I'd miss Ned, the one person other than the Avengers that knew I was Spiderman. Hopefully he wouldn't say anything to anybody or Mr. Stark might knock him out or something.

"Hello, I'm new. They said to come to the office on the first day to get my schedule and locker combo and stuff," I said to one of the three secretaries.

She looked at me over the tops of her glasses. "All right. Grade and name."

"Grade 11, Peter Parker."

She handed me a paper I assumed was the schedule, and then looked back to her computer screen. "Wait here, please. There will be a short talk from the principal before you go to class."

I sat down in one of the semi-comfortable chairs against the wall and waited. As I sat there, a tall girl with brown hair walked in.

"Hi, my name is Marina Scott. I'm new to the school."

The lady was about to respond when a trio walked in, one boy grinning, another scowling, and a girl laughing.

"Percy Jackson, what are you doing? How many times have I told you to be quiet in the office?"

I could have sworn Percy muttered some kind of curse word once under his breath, but then louder, he said, "Sorry, Mrs. T. I was just showing them to the office." He gestured at the two kids beside him. Funny, I could have sworn they were laughing like they'd been through alot together.

"Please excuse us, ma'am. I'm Piper McLean, I'm going into grade eleven, and I'm new. This here is Connor Stoll. We were told to come here this morning." She gave the woman a warm smile, and Peter immediately forgot about how loud they'd been coming in.

Surprisingly, Mrs. T smiled back and Percy nudged Piper. "It's quite all right. Let me grab the schedules for the three of you and then you can sit over there with that boy." She gestured to me.

"But I already have my schedule," Percy reminded her.

She turned up her nose. "I wasn't talking to you, Jackson. Now get to class or you'll be late."

Percy shrugged and then fist bumped Travis and put a hand on Piper's shoulder before walking out and saying "good luck." I guess they must have been friends after all.

The last three sat down, Marina sitting on my left and Travis on my right. He started whispering with Piper, but when I tried to make out part of the conversation, it just sounded like gibberish.

As if the office wasn't already crowded enough, four more people tried to get through the door all at once.
