Hold up, you didn't seriously think that I would only post, like, a couple hundred words after not updating in so long? I hope you have more faith in me than that. So here is another - longer - chapter to tide you over. I'll be busy the next few weeks, but somebody please remind me to update. ;)

"Whoah, slow down," I said.

I'd picked up the phone on the third ring, and Clary had already started talking. When I heard what she had to say, my eyes widened.

"What is it?" Izzy asked across the table. She had been boredly picking at the soup in front of her, but stopped when she saw my face.

"Yeah, Izzy and I will be right there. Yes, we'll call Jace." I hung up and grabbed my jacket. "Clary needs us. Apparently there's an attack at the school. She said there was close to thirty hellhounds and she only has one seraph blade."

Izzy actually dropped her fork, and if I hadn't been worried for Clary, I might have laughed in actually seeing Izzy surprised. "Thirty? By the angel. What could have caused an attack that big?"

"I don't know," I said, leaving a twenty on the table. So much for lunch. Izzy and I hurried down the street. We weren't too far away from the school, only a couple blocks, but it felt like miles.

When we turned the last corner, I heard Izzy gasp. There was thirty, all right. If I had to guess, I probably would have said closer to forty. Her whip was already in her hand, and she was ready to fight. I'd called Jace on the way over, and he was coming, but if we didn't take care of them quickly, the school would probably be destroyed by the time he got here.

All of the hellhounds seemed to be crowding into three groups. At first, I couldn't see why, but then I made out three figures- one in the center of each pack. Occasionally, I'd see the glint of a blade and sometimes one of the dogs would burst into dust.

"Simon, Izzy!" It was Clary. We ran across the street to where she was standing, clutching her stele. She had already marked herself up, and as soon as we got over, she began etching a rune onto my shoulder.

"So many of them," Izzy murmured.

"I think Percy, Piper and Connor are fighting them," Clary said, flustered.

"What?" I exclaimed. "You let the mundanes fight demons?"

"I didn't let them do anything. They said they had to go to the office and when I got outside, they were already surrounded. They seem to be holding them off, though. I don't know how."

"We need to help them," Izzy decided and started charging towards the battle. Clary and I joined her.

We were slashing, jabbing, and whipping left and right, but they just kept coming. The three of us stood back to back, fighting off any that were dumb enough to come our way. One jumped towards me and I got ready to stab it, but instead of attacking me, it pounced on one that looked like it would have gotten me from behind.

I didn't know why it might have done that, but I didn't have time to think about it. I was in full on battle mode, only concentrated on making sure Clary, Izzy, and I weren't hurt.

At some point, the hellhounds had formed one cluster. That either meant the three mundies had formed a group, or... I refused to think about it. They couldn't be dead, they just couldn't be.

We fought for minutes, but it felt like hours. I didn't think I'd ever taken on this many at one time. Everything was a constant blur of black, which was impressive considering it was still sunny out. One time, Clary yelled something and then shoved her seraph blade into a hellhound charging right at me. It exploded dust onto my face.
