⚠️⚠️SPOILERS FOR TOG SERIES FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T READ THE SERIES YET ⚠️⚠️AND ACOWAR
One of the biggest reasons why I love SJM so much is the character development.
Character development is HUGE in a series and if there is none then the book has some issues, but that's not the case for SJM's books.
The way she does her character development is just amazing.
For Aelin, when we first met her she was Celaena Sardothien. Celaena Sardothien was Adarlans most notorious assassin. She was ruthless and bloodthirsty. She did everything to survive. But In TAB Sam confessed to her that he's been in love with her and she changed then. After that we see a different side of her.
Then in ToG we see another side of her. She is still an assassin trying to survive but she's also fighting for her freedom. She meets new people who will then become her dearest friends in her life. She meets many more characters that impact her life. So from where she started in TAB to the end of ToG is amazing.
In HoF we see a drastic change. She's no longer just an assassin she is the lost queen of Terrasen. She trains her body to get adjusted to be Fae and to learn how to harness her gifts. She meets Rowan who helps her get through all this. Rowan calls her by her real name- Aelin which she doesn't accept. She thinks that part of her is dead. So Rowan works her hard, making her master her fire. When the Valg came she took charge and destroyed them but she gave into what and who she was and in the end of the book she excepted that she's Fae, and is Aelin Ashryver Galathynius. She also has a carranam who she hates in the beginning of the book and now who is blood sworn to her, and also has some feels for her😏😏
In QoS she doesn't go by her alias anymore. She saves her cousin who she hasn't seen in years and acts like they just saw each other. She meets up with Arobynn again and plans to kill him with the person she hates in TAB but now is one of her dear friends. Her and her Court plan to save Dorian and the rest of the world from the king of Adarlan. She takes charge and sees through that everyone she cares for is safe. She really was a fire breathing bitch queen who kicked ass.
And in Eos she acted as a queen. She may not have told everyone her plans for things but chose what she needed to do for the good of Erilea she would do anything and I mean anything to keep the ones she lives safe. And in the beginning of the series all her choices were for her and only her. And now she has a Court. People believe in her, they believe that she can change the world for the good, and I just think it's amazing how far Aelin has gone throughout the books.
So I'm the beginning of the series she was just an assassin, and now she is a Queen who will even sacrifice herself for everyone else 😭😭😭
Wow that was only Aelin. Aelins character development in 534 words 😂😂 now let's see how much Feyre's is.
In the beginning of ACOTAR we found a girl who was starving and tired but was driven to protect her family by a promise and because of survival. She taught herself how to hunt and skin animals to feed her family. She was the one who supported the family and made sure they were all well fed and everything.
But when she goes to the spring Court she is desperate to get back to her family, to make sure they are okay because of the promise she made to her mom before dying. She hates Tamlin and Lucien's guts because they took her away but after spending so much time with them she started befriending them. She even started getting feels for Tamlin 🤢.
On Calanmai tho, she meets Rhysand and her first ever impression of him is "he is the most beautiful male she's every seen". She knew he was dangerous because of the other Fae were scared of him but she still stayed and talked to him, she was drawn to him. But she left and that night she met Tamlin and all that.
She got closer and closer to Tamlin and things happened and when she met Rhys again she found out who he actually was and BAM she hated him because Tamlin hated him. She then knew she "loved" Tamlin But Tamlin got scared so she got sent away.
We see another side of her as she would protect him at all costs. She went under the mountain and made the deal with Amarantha. She did this because she loved Tamlin and would do anything for him. She goes through the first trial and barely lives. She makes a bargain with Rhys and is disgusted by him and everything.
At the end she becomes Fae and we see a side of her who doesn't want to live. When she was killing those innocent she even thought that she was going to kill herself after the three. She didn't want to live because she killed them, she was just depressed. Like she Gabe up in life. AND she didn't see Rhysand as a monster as everybody else did.
In ACOMAF tho, she just fell into despair. Tamlin just shut her out and she got treated as fragile. But we see some resistance to him when she asks to come with. She leaves with Rhysand and goes to the Night Court either way she despises him.
She meets the Inner Circle and starts to learn about what's actually happening and how to help. She accepted that she has powers form all seven courts and she needs to master it. She still hates Rhys because he took her away but she's warming up to him and his friends. She is healing from what happened Under the Mountain with the Inner Circle.
She started getting some feels for Rhys but doesn't except it until after the Hewn City, But is too scared to voice what she wants to him. On Starfall she is healed enough that she can paint and she smiled and laughed to Rhys for the first time ever!!!!!!
Rhys voices what he wanted and she got scared and said something other than what she wanted. She found out Rhys was her mate and then except him and he Inner Circle as her family and hates Tamlins guts again. She'll do anything to stop him. And she becomes the feeling High Lady of the Night Court.
In ACOWAR she is a spy and in mastery of her powers. She also learned how to fight so she can kick some Hybern-ian ass.
She comes back and is like this huge political figure as High Lady and powerful at that. She will do anything to stop Hybern.
She also accepts what she is when she faced the ouroboros (that's the name of the mirror right? I haven't read the book in a while so I don't know all the details) she accepts what she is.
She defeats Hybern with everyone's help and the ending is all happy and stuff cuz everyone survived (well relatively survived).
Ok couldn't count how many words Feyre was but a lot more than 500.
And thinking about this Feyre went through A LOT of changes in ACOMAF and I think that's why it's my favorite out of the three books.
Feyre came A LONG way throughout these three books. In the beginning she was just someone who did what she needed to to survive and now she is a bad ass High Lady of the Night Court.
I just love the character development in her books because it's so much fun learning their journey. Like one character can be this way in the beginning and is the complete opposite in the end of the book and I just think that's amazing how it all works.
These two character had a huge change in who their character was for the better. They became better people and met new people because of it. Their journeys were just amazing to figure out with them.
