Chapter 10

I ran into Nate on the way out of the building.

"So how did it go?" He asked eyes widening.

"I got the part." I said smiling.

"Congrats bro!" He suddenly pulled me into a hug and I froze. Surely he didn't notice the shape of my body. I stood there completely still. When he pulled away he looked at me confused. Oh crap. He knows! I thought.

"Sam when did you get so short? And why do you smell like strawberries?"

I stood there trying to come up with a logical excuse. Don't make it seem fake. Make it believable.

"I think you just got taller. As for the strawberry smell my sister moved in with me. I ran out of shampoo so I had to use some of her's."

"How manly of you." He punched my arm laughing.

I tried to laugh it off. "Yeah like this never happened to you before." I slapped his back.

"That was one time! And you promised not to tell anyone or even mention it again."

It seemed like he didn't notice and if he did he wasn't thinking about it too much.

"You're the one who brought it up."

"Fine, let's drop it. Not a word of this to anyone!"

"Alright then. Say didn't you also have to use someone else's towel too?"

"Drop it Sam!" A small blush of embarrassment forming on his cheeks.

"Drop the towel?" I teased. It was fun seeing his like this.

"Shut up Sam!" His face grew redder.

"Alright I'll stop. Hey I should get going. I'm going to get Chinese for me and Sammy. See you later Nate."

"Later Sam." He began to walk away relieved that I stopped talking.

I began making my way to the van where Mr. Sullivan and Ms. Langley were waiting for me. When I opened the door they turned to look at me eyes wide.

"Did he notice?" they asked in unison.

"I don't think so. He asked about the height difference and why I smelled like a girl but I came up with a good excuse."

"What was it?" Mr. Sullivan asked.

"I told him I was living with Sam and that he used my shampoo since he ran out."

They both nodded as if content with my lie. Ah this seemed easier than I thought.

"Hey do you think we should celebrate buy ordering Chinese?" I suggested. I absolutely loved Chinese food but it was a luxury I could never afford.

"That sounds wonderful." Ms. Langley replied. "I know this great place close to the apartment."

We drove away from the building, heading towards the Chinese place. I stared up at the clear blue sky, smiling. I couldn't wait to see Sam's face when I told him I got him the part.
