Chapter 9
I woke up to a wall of ice water on my face. Sputtering, I opened my eyes and attempted to rub them only to find my hands tied behind me to a chair. After a brief moment of dizziness, and the sudden realization that my head was pounding, I looked at my surroundings. I was in a small clearing within the trees. My captors were a group of three men. One approached me and roughly yanked my chin upwards, so I was looking at him
“Hello sweetheart.” He taunted. “Don’t you know it’s dangerous to be walking around alone?” He was at least six feet tall, tattooed, and had a sickly smile that made my stomach fall.
“What do you want with me?” I asked shakily. My jaw hurt where his hands were digging in.
I must have been wincing because a second man, tall and ridiculously strong, approached.
“Let the girlie go Ian. She’ll cooperate. I’ll make sure”
“What do you want with me!” I asked, a little more frightened this time.
“Shut it!” shouted the third man. “Not anuder word or ye’ll pay for it” This man looked younger, but none less intimidating than his companions. He had a strong accent.
“We need you to tell us where you came from.” Demanded the strong man
“I’m from Delta. It was fate day and-
“Don’t lie to me bitch.”
“What? I’m not!”
My hair was yanked so hard my head flew back with it. I cried out in pain.
“We know you came from Merrowmoor”
“I swear I have no idea what you’re saying!” I winced
He let go with an extra tug for good measure. He turned away as if to leave, but then turned back and struck my cheek causing my teeth to bleed.
“Where is it!? If you don’t tell me there’s more coming stupid girl!” He screamed, inches from my face. I moaned in reply
“If she doesn’t tell you the location in 30 minutes set a fire under her.” He said with a sneer. “That always get them talking.”
Strong guy, obviously their leader, turned and left the clearing, taking my bag with him. The others advanced on me and untied me from the chair, while keeping my hands tied. I was thrown to the ground and kicked in the ribs.
“Ye gut a minute before ye’re more black an blue dan white.”
“I can’t tell you what I don’t know!” I moaned. Just then the ground started rumbling beneath me. From the looks on their faces, the men felt it too
“It’s a bloody quake!”
But it wasn’t an earthquake. Bursting through the bushes into the clearing was three large animals, with white snouts and long powerful legs and hooves. On each of their backs were 2 angry looking girls. The girls dismounted and instantly the fighting started. The men were at an advantage for strength, but the girls had numbers. One untied me and pulled me up.
“Run as far as you can in our tracks! We’ll find you!” shouted the girl, before running off to help her friends.
I didn’t need to be asked twice. I ran for a long as my beaten body could last, which wasn’t long. I soon got dizzy and fell into the dense bush beside the road.
