The tour was short, but I found out almost everything I needed to know about Merrowmoor. The districts were run by one leader each, eventually I would work in Arts, and I had to wear blue clothing as long as I stayed in the Education district. I expected Sandrine to be quiet and polite like she was around Amalie, but that was not the case. She treated me like I was a kid she was forced to babysit for no pay.

“Those are the public gardens in Recreation, and beside it is the library on the outskirts of Arts. There was quite a fight over who should own it, so they built it in the middle.” Sandrine rambled on. “Over there-“

“Where are you from?” I interrupted

“What?” she asked indignantly, obviously mad that I interrupted her tour “Who cares!”

“It matters to me. I just want to know.”

“Whatever. I’m from Vista. I’ve lived here since I can remember though so I tend to try and forget my past.”

“But you look no older than 16! That’s like 3 years, which isn’t that long.”

“I’m 17 thanks, and unlike Delta which has the softest leaders in the world, Vista’s fate day starts at 7 not 13. But we don’t cry or get upset, I mean it sucks to leave your family but the life there is…rougher.” She replied

“Oh…Ah ok sorry. I had no idea. I thought all the domes were the same, except their specialties.”

A smile came to her face. “You really are a rookie aren’t you.” She asked

“Yeah I just got here. Delta was good but I think I’ll learn to like it here.”

“You will. Try to meet some other 15 year olds at the university. And don’t get in the older, working peoples way” She ordered, any happiness gone from her face.

“I’ll do what I want!” I snapped. “I am only 2 years younger than you so quit being so rude and controlling.”

“Wow, feisty, I never would have expected that from you.” She said, while giving me a once over. “By the way, in case you forgot, Amalie did leave me in charge of you. So you have to listen to me.”

            “Oh get over yourself!”

“You will wish you were in my position of work when Amalie thinks you’re ready to be independent, and you no longer get the special treatment. You will become normal! Like everyone else when they came in, you think you’re special.” Shouted Sandrine. “Just remember that you’re not! You know what; if I wasn’t responsible for you, I would ditch you. Let’s go back now so we can minimalize the amount of time we have to spend together.”

With that she almost dragged me back to the Mairie. She was steaming for reasons unknown to me. I figured I had said something wrong. As soon as we got into the city centre, her mood changed. We just got back when we saw Amalie exiting the building.

“Oh hello ladies, tour done already?” asked Amaile when we got close enough.

“Yes Miss, we had a nice time.” Sandrine responded sweetly

Figuring I should play along and not mention Sandrine’s other personality, I nodded.

“Very well, Sandrine I need a report on the gardens for Mr. Waters by tomorrow.”

“Of course Miss.” She replied “See you later Fedora!”

Amalie walked back to my apartment with me. I was on the second floor on the first building, so it would be very convenient to walk to university. I couldn’t help but think about what Sandrine had said to me about Amalie abandoning people once they were able to be independent. I couldn’t decide whether it was the thought of not being close to Amalie, or why people weren’t always independent that worried me.

“This is it!” exclaimed Amalie cheerfully she unlicked the door and opened it to a small but cute apartment, with baby blue walls and just enough room for a desk, bed, small kitchen, two chairs and a door that must lead to a bathroom. I was suddenly overcome with emothion.

“Thank you so much for everything Amalie. If it weren’t for you and the others…” I started to sob

“Oh my, well let’s get you inside dear; I assure you that I won’t ever let anything happen to you again.” She promised

“Thank you.” I said as we walked inside.

Amalie closed the door behind us “I'm going to tell you something that not many people know. You remember the man that came today right?”

“Yes I remember, that’s why I had to meat Sandrine.”

“Well, that man that I met with doesn’t care about the gardens like I told Sandrine. He is a representative from the Domes. And something is very very wrong.”
