“Merrowmoor?”
“Yes.” Amalie laughed. “This is a safe place for young men and women who are chosen to leave their domes. You’re familiar with the names of the four dorms?”
“Of course. There’s Delta, Salus, Garden and Vista.” I replied. It was something that I figured was common knowledge.
“Very good, I guess you would know that, since Deltonians are very book smart.”
“We are?” I questioned
“Yes. I would know being originally from there. Without further interruption I would like you to meet your leaders. I am Delta’s representative. Rosa is Garden’s representative, Bellowna-
“Or Bella”
“Of course, Bella is Vista’s representative, Valentina is from Salus, and Carlyn was born here.” She pointed to each girl in turn. “I hope that if you ever find yourself in trouble, you will go to them. Go girls, and I will speak to our new member.”
“Are you sure she’s Delta?” asked Rosa, “She looks garden to me.”
“She has to be from what she was wearing” added Valentina
“But that hair!”
“Guys! I’m right here! I’m from Delta!” I said exasperated.
“Please go ladies. She is now mine to train” said Amalie. The others trickled out until it was just the two of us.
“Train? Is this like an army?”
“Only if you’re from Vista. Which, as anyone can see, you’re not. The little argument over who your leader should be came from an earlier conversation. If you had been wearing green nobody would have questioned Rosa being your leader. Except maybe you of course.”
“I was unconscious an hour ago, so this is a lot to take in. I’m not quite following everything. Who’s Rosa again?” I questioned
Amalie sighed. “Ok, Rosa is Gardens leader. She’s our youngest leader at 18. I’m sure you haven’t ever been told you look like a Gardner, but you do.”
“So she wanted me?”
“Yes, but you would never have fit in with the other Gardeners. You ask way too many questions, and your name doesn’t match. Everyone from Garden is named after a plant.”
“Do Deltonians have special names?” I asked, “or characteristics? Or anything I can use to know who to talk to!”
