Chapter 2......knock knock

"Thank you for calling Baker and Romeo how may I direct your call?" Oh god my stomached was just rolling. I tried to concentrate on taking deep breaths before I threw up yet again. Yep that's better...better....oh my god not better. Motioning to Rory I ripped the head set off and began my third race to the staff bathroom that morning. Leaning over the toilet I was sure I was going to die. There was nothing quite as embarrassing as praying to the porcelain god while your at work. Expecially at an upscale advertising firm where I swear everyone looks immaculate all the time. Seriously not even a hair out of place. Here image truly is everything.

I splashed water on my face and tried to get my shit together. Leave it to me to catch Regan's flu. Giving myself a once over in the mirror I straightened my skirt and headed back to my desk. It was just my luck Mr. Baker himself was standing there holding some files looking rather perturbed. Clearing my throat I asked, "Mr. Baker what can I do for you?"

It was of course at that particular moment my system decided it was time to empty again. Oh god no this can't be happening. Please no...please no....oh shit. I grabbed the garbage can at my desk and tossed my cookies. Well if that's not a way to greet your boss I don't know what is. Especially when he's a demanding up tight preppy type. I wanted to crawl under my desk and die. "I'm sorry Mr Baker I seem to have caught my daughters flew bug. I'm going to need to go home."

After apologizing to Rory several time for she was going to have to pick up my work load I found myself slumped in the back seat of a cab. Thankfully Rory offered to grab the kids after school. All I wanted to do was get home, take a shower and go to bed. This flu was kicking my ass from here to eternity and back again. As soon as I got in my apartment I flopped on my bed and didn't move. I didn't even take my coat or shoes off.

Several hours must have passed cause when I woke it was no longer mid morning and I could here the girls voices. Looking at my clock on my night stand it read 5:30pm. My stomach was no longer rolling but I was so hungry I was positive I hadn't ate in months. As soon as I opened my door I the smell of Rory's famous baked spaghetti hit me. My stomach growled in approval.

"Hey there how are you feeling?" she looked at me leery when I walked into the kitchen.

"I'm sorry for making you sick mom." Regan was looking at me rather sheepishly from the couch.

"I feel much better. Hopefully it's just a twenty four hour bug cause I can't afford the time off work." I flipped on the oven light and inspected the spaghetti baking in the oven. "That smells incredible how much longer?"

"Not much longer. I would say about twenty minutes or so." I watched as Rory set the table and wondered what I would ever do without her. Unquestionably she was always there for me.

After supper we cleaned up, made some coffee and watched a few episodes of The Big Bang before Rory left. Considering I slept for over six hours I really couldn't explain why I was so tired. This time however I was defiantly having a shower before going to bed. Stepping into the shower I put my face directly into the spray letting the water rinse away the grief of the day. I could remember reaching for the shampoo when everything started to go black.

I awoke in a haze with my head pounding and my wrist shooting streaks of pain up my arm. I was lying in a hospital bed in the ER with four extremely concerned faces looking at me. My mind grasped at confused straws as I had no idea what was going on.

"Are you ok mom? I heard you fall down in the shower and when I called you there was no answer. Kayla picked the lock and when you wouldn't wake up she told me to go get Vanessa!" Leave it to my little chatter box to fill me in on every detail in one breath.
