Chapter 19......On The Wind Of A Whisper

Five days had now passed since I had seen Will. He came and went like a ghost in the night to change and get whatever for work. Not a phone call or so much as a text. In his place Hayden had moved back into the penthouse to keep an eye on me.

Finally I had enough. I was forcing Hayden to watch The Good Wife when I spun around suddenly and startled him. Slapping him on the arm I announced, "I'm going to phone Will."

"Ok, " I almost found his lack lustre response disappointing.

I knew I wouldn't get far from Hayden as he had been all but glued to my side. Still all the same I wanted some privacy. Walking to the kitchen I nervously played with the pepper shaker listening to the phone ring.

"Hello," Wills voice drifted across the phone.

"Hey Will it's me" I began trying to control the shake in my voice. I thought it sad how even over the phone the man had the power to intimidate.

"Is everything ok?" I watched Hayden check his phone and then look at me before he replied to the message. I wondered if Will was texting Hayden while talking to me.

"Ya I just think we need to talk."

"Talk about what?" Will asked

I had to admit I was somewhat confused by his response. "About what happens the other night. That would be a good place to start."

Calm and completely indifferent Will answered, "It doesn't concern you and I am currently dealing with it. You have nothing to worry about except for relaxing like the doctor said. That's why I have had Hayden move back in."

I sat there for a moment with my mouth gaping open. "Will I watched you get arrested in front of me. The police got a warrant to search our home and seize the Land Rover." I paused but when he said nothing I laid all my cards on the table. "That detective Ann Marshal she's been talking to me. She said she was Clare's sister."

The silence was deafening as I listened to the sound of my own heart racing. For a split second I wondered if he had hung up on me. "What did I tell you about threatening me?"

Determined not to coward and hide I tried to stand my ground. " I'm not threatening you. It does concern me because I'm having your babies. The past does effect the future. I'm just trying to understand what is going on."

"I have to go if you have no real problems. I'm behind at work," he stated.

I couldn't believe he wasn't even willing to talk about it at all. Not even a slight explanation. "Will we need to talk."

"Goodnight Dee," I watched as the light faded on my screen and eventually went black. Rubbing my thumb back and forth on my screen I was lost in my own thought and hadn't noticed Hayden come to the kitchen.

"I said ok you could phone him. I didn't say ok that the phone call would make you happy." Placing a bottle of water in front of me snapping my attention back.

"Hayden, how much do you know about Will?" I asked

Looking at me with raised eyebrows Hayden sat down across from me. "To be honest not much at all."

"You wouldn't tell me anyways." I knew from his smile that he knew more but I wasn't going to find out from him.

That was that. Time passed on as the night flowed into the next morning and fallowing afternoon stretching out into the evening. Both the girls had gone to sleepovers so I took the opportunity to go to a poetry reading at a coffee shop in Greenwich Village with Tori and Vanessa. Before I got involved with Will we use to go at least once a week together. I had forgotten how much I missed it. In fact I had forgotten how much I missed hanging out constantly with my friends.
