Chapter 12. .........Let It Be Said

The next week was hell living with Kayla and Will under the same roof. If I wasn't hearing it from Kayla about how I so inconsiderably destroyed her life. I was catching it from Will about how I was currently screwing up his life and falling short of every expectation. There was no peace and quiet to be found anywhere. The days were growing longer and as each day passed I felt more cut off and drained.

It was Friday morning and I was battering with Kayla to get out the door or we were going to be late for her interview. I could understand her anger with the situation it's just that her sassing and back talking had reached epic proportions. "Kayla that's enough now let's get going!"

"Ok mom I'm not deaf I'm working on it," Kayla snapped from her bedroom.

I paced around for another ten minutes at the doorway before I called up the stairs, "That's enough get down her now your sister and I are tired of waiting. We need to go now."

"Relax I'm coming. Besides what's your panic? It's just a waste of time I'm not even going to try. I don't want to go to some stuck up private school. You can just leave me enrolled at St. Mathews." Her voice dripped with an I know it all attitude and at the moment it was more than I could take.

I began to walk up the stairs when Will came out of his office and in four quick strides was at Kayla's bedroom door. In a voice that clearly was not asking but angrily demanding Will snapped, "Kayla get up. Feet on the floor. Start moving." Kayla must have nearly ran but she was most defiantly moving. She was nearly half way down the stairs when Will spoke again stopping Kayla dead in her tracks. "You will apply yourself to this interview and fallowing exams as I do not enjoy waisting my money. If I am inclined to think otherwise there is always the possibility of boarding schools should you so prefer. My suggestion is that you stop acting like a spoiled child. You'll find life more agreeable."

I stood there stunned and completely unsure of what to do. I was pissed that he stepped in but I also was great full that the child was now moving in fast forward. As harsh as Wills words were I couldn't exactly disagree with him either. With a sigh I fallowed the girls out the door knowing that yet another brick had been added to the wall that was slowly dividing us. By the time all was said and done and this baby came out at this rate none of us would be talking to each other.

The day was long and drug out as I had anticipated. Most of the conversations were laced with short snappy comments. Either way both girls had interviewed at their perspective schools and it had appeared to go well. With all the traffic it was nearly supper time when we got back to the penthouse. Upon opening the door my mouth watered at the smell that bathed us. Still acting like a wounded animal Kayla stomped immediately to her room and her sister poked along behind her. Walking into the kitchen I was surprised to find Will and not Elisa.

"I will be entertaining a guest here this weekend. I have booked you and you children into the four seasons.

Pack what you will need and be ready to go in thirty minutes." Will said dryly without so much as a glance in my direction.

Taken completely off guard I mumbled, "ok" and left to get the girls. It wasn't the first time Will had dismissed me in such a fashion but this one felt beyond cold.

Surprised as to the turn of events I hurried the girls before he changed his mind. Will seldom let me breath out of his sight. Before I could stop her Regan scooted into the kitchen poking her head around the corner, "Goodnight Will see you later."

He smiled back at her, "Goodnight Regan."

I went to the kitchen to get her before my little magpie tried to start a conversation. As I reached for her shoulders I looked at Will who gave me a quick nod before looking way. That's when I noticed he had showered, shaved and changed his cloths. The table in the dinning room was set for two with candles lit. There was also wine chilling and a beautiful bouquet of who could count how many long stem roses. Realizing exactly what the score was I was now desperate to get the elevator and make my dash. Unfortunately I couldn't be so lucky.
