Chapter 16........Paddling Up Stream With No Boat

After Will left my room I laid there thinking about what he said. About what had happened that night. No doubt hundreds of people had probably told him it wasn't his fault but what parent wouldn't blame themselves. I couldn't imagine the horror of watching one of the girls die in front of me and being unable to help. Unable to hold and console them in their time of need. The weight of that memory making you wish you were dead everyday you were alive. Most people had baggage but Will had a suitcase filled with bricks.

Looking at the clock I decided it was time to start the blind mans derby. This is the term I use for school mornings. The worst of all was always the first day of school. For those of you without kids or two teenage daughters let me fill you in on the scene of events about to unfold. It will begin with no less than five attempts to get the girls up to which I conclude I must be speaking a foreign language because they don't move. Once I have finally pried them from their beds they become fashionistas walking the New York runway. There will be a flurry of trying on cloths and flinging them about the room as they empty their entire closet onto the floor. It is during this phase that they each must yell that they have nothing to wear and stomp about. The next lap of the derby is where is can get quite ugly and all rules of civil engagement go right out the window. Two teenage girls sharing one bathroom could easily be compared to a cage match with weapons. Here is where the yelling, slamming of doors, and the occasional curse word is employed. It is also at this point where the name Mom is used to the point is looses all meaning. Usually at some point I go and break up world war three for fear of casualties. The final lap is full of glares and snide quips that don't even necessarily have to make sense. Then finally the race is completed as they leave out the door full of sisterly love still shooting death stares at each other. Success achieved I send them off to what they call prison and I refuted to as school. The exiting part was there was only nine more months of this. Unequivocally my children are not morning people and lack the ability to rise and shine.

Will had already gone to work early and I was thankful. It left just Eliza to bare wittiness to this mornings event and to which she laughed to no end. Finally with the girls gone I planed on doing some meditation that Grant had showed me over the past month. I loved to do it out on the terrace in the mornings. It was almost like having your own private slice of heaven high above the grind of the city bellow. Between the sounds of the inlaid waterfalls and birds you could forget just where you were. I was about half way threw when I heard the door chime fallowed by Wills voice. I finished a little early and went in search to tell Will of his surprise baby news.

I made him a fresh coffee and headed to where I knew he would be, his office. "Your home early?"

Barley glancing up from his paperwork Will held up a stack of papers in his hand, "I forgot to bring some stuff I needed to the office."

Placing the coffee cup down on his desk Will stop what he was doing and instantly looked at me. "Apparently coffee holds answers and I have two questions. Well one really and something to show you." Glancing towards my cup Will raised his eyebrows. "Don't worry yours is the real stuff and mine is what ever this shit is."

Sitting against his desk Will took a drink of his coffee a almost smiled, "So I've been told. What's up?"

Nervously I thumbed my fingers on my cup. Common sense was telling me to shut my mouth and curiousity was telling me to ask. The only conclusion I came to was I must have thought I was a cat and only used six of my nine lives. My lips were flapping before I thought ahead. "Why did you tell me about what happened with Even last night?"

Looking away Will cleared his throat as he rubbed his hand across his jaw line. "Mac said I should. Break some of the tension between us because it wasn't good for the baby."
