Years ago...

"Soulmates? So cool! You're telling me that these markings are what they're going to say when you meet them?" Midoriya asked in amazement.

"Of course, stupid! It's rare for people to not get them, though. Anyway, I bet my soulmate will be way cooler than yours!" Bakugou exclaimed.

"So cool, Kacchan!"

For pretty much all of his life, Midoriya had wondered what his future soulmate would be like. He had always been fascinated when listening to different stories about people's soulmates. All he knew was that when the day came when he would meet his soulmate, he would truly treasure that day.

~

The next day, Midoriya decided that he would approach Todoroki. It was the right thing to do, and it would get things over with quicker. The only question was, why was he hesitating so much? It shouldn't be that hard, right? Wrong. He was a nervous wreck.

When he entered the classroom, he completely avoided looking or even glancing at Todoroki. Todoroki also felt a strange feeling as Midoriya entered the room, but he thought nothing of it since he did not know about some of the symptoms. That just made the situation worse. When it was time to take attendance, Midoriya was even nervous to go back to his seat. His legs refused to move, and he rubbed the back of his neck. "Deku, why are you just standing there?" Uraraka asked, slightly tilting her head to the side.

"Oh, sorry! I was just uh... daydreaming. Yeah. I'll just head to my seat now, haha," he replied. Uraraka could tell something was not right, but decided to leave it be for the time being. As Midoriya sat down, he tried so hard to keep calm. He started to fidget with his pencil, but he accidentally flicked it onto Todoroki's desk.

NNNNNOOOOOOO YOU IDIOT!

Midoriya internally went into full panic mode. He thought of almost every bad outcome of what just happened, and prepared himself for the worst. Todoroki glanced down at the pencil as it landed onto his desk, and paused for a moment. He then picked it up and turned towards Midoriya, holding the pencil out for him to take back. "T-thanks..." Midoriya said, obviously embarrassed about the situation.

"Yeah," the other boy replied in a slightly shy way, but he still had that classic deadpan expression.

As Aizawa was taking the attendance, Midoriya thought for a while about approaching Todoroki. He thought about all of the "what if" questions, until he finally convinced himself and built up the courage to do what had to be done. Midoriya wished that they would've realized they were soulmates at the cafe, but unfortunately that did not happen. Midoriya turned to Todoroki, and leaned over to quietly ask him something. "Uh, hey. Do you think it would be possible to meet after school? There's something I have to tell you," he quietly said with a slightly worried expression. Todoroki narrowed his eyes and tilted his head a bit in confusion, but agreed to meet up after school at the cafe. Midoriya internally sighed in relief.

It's strange but kinda cool how we're meeting up at the place where our tattoos disappeared.

The day went by faster that Midoriya expected. He was having a lot of fun doing hero training and being able to practice using his quirk more. As everyone was leaving, Midoriya walked out and headed over to the cafe. He was nervous the entire time, but reminded himself that this had to be done. He walked into the cafe, and paused at the entrance. He saw Todoroki sitting at one of the tables sipping a cup of some drink. Todoroki looked peaceful, and Midoriya hoped that the rest of their meeting would go peacefully as well. His shift hadn't started yet, so at least they had some time to talk. Midoriya approached Todoroki and sat at a seat across from him. Todoroki's eyes met with Midoriya's, and he put his cup down. He waited for Midoriya to start talking. "Uh, hey. So um... I have a quick question," Midoriya said.

"Okay, what is it?" Todoroki responded.

"Have you by any chance... met your soulmate? Specifically on the day before the school year started?" Midoriya quickly said the last part, and instantly put his head down in nervousness. After a few seconds of silence, Midoriya lifted his head to glance at Todoroki. He lifted his head completely once he saw Todoroki's expression. Todoroki's eyes were wide, but then he furrowed them.

"How do you know about that?" he asked, not yet fully understanding where Midoriya was going with that question.

"I'll just let you think about if for a sec." Todoroki thought to himself for a minute, before widening his eyes again.

"Oh..."

"You get it now? I just realized this yesterday, so I'm still a bit shocked as well." Midoriya explained everything to Todoroki, and he facepalmed for not noticing that sooner.

"Huh. So, I guess you're my soulmate?"

"Yep, that's right."

"Ok... so what now?"

"I was just thinking about that. I was thinking maybe we could try to get to know each other better? If you're fine with that! I mean, just so we can get along better or something? Again, if you're okay with that. I'm willing to wait until you're ready. It's even fine if you don't want to at all-"

"Midoriya." Todoroki held up his hand. He seemed tired, but didn't say anything. "Listen, this is kind of a lot to take in, and I also don't think my fa- I mean, I think it's a good idea to get to know each other. I just have one request."

"What's that?"

"I think we should keep the fact that we're soulmates a secret for a while. Just due to... certain things."

"Ah, is it because you're Endeavor's son? I'm guessing people bother you on the streets a lot with questions and stuff since he's famous." Todoroki narrowed his eyes when Midoriya mentioned Endeavor, but quickly went back to a relaxed expression.

"That's one reason," Todoroki muttered.

"Ok, well I'm fine with accepting that request. I really hope we can get to know each other better in the future!" Todoroki just continued to drink from his cup. He couldn't tell if it was the hot drink Todoroki was drinking or something else, but Midoriya swore he could have saw a tiny blush start to form on Todoroki's face and then instantly disappear.

A little while after Midoriya and Todoroki met up, it was starting to get dark outside, and Todoroki's short work shift was about to start. He escorted Midoriya to the front of the cafe, and Midoriya faced him. "Hey, thank you for taking this well," Midoriya said.

"Why wouldn't I?"

"I don't really know, I guess I was just worrying too much. Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow okay?"

"Okay."

"Have a good night!" When Midoriya said this, he smiled. Todoroki noticed how the lights from outside shined on Midoriya, and it made him look like an angel. Todoroki felt something strange in his heart, but didn't know why it happened. He decided to ignore it, and he said goodnight to Midoriya.

Midoriya walked home with a smile on his face, and Todoroki worked with a confused look on his face. "Is it normal for a heart to do this?" he wondered to himself.
