Jayden held the door for me ,placing his hand on the small of back as he held the door open with the other.He guided me to a small booth in the back of the diner ,nodding at a waitress as we made our way around other patrons. When the waitress came over with menus I noticed she was about a decade older than we were, caked on makeup like a clown and kept watching Jayden.He wasn't ugly by any means so I got the reason she was staring at him.

Order anything you want but I recommend the bacon burger. It's the best in Boston" he suggested with a wink

I studied the menu although clearly Jayden had been here numerous times and didn't need one. Clearing my throat I decided I wasn't consuming anything that once had a heartbeat attached to it.

"I'm Vegan " I lied not looking up from the menu

Hmmm." Jayden shrugged

When the waitress returned for our  order she eyed Jayden

I cleared my throat and spoke as he eyed me to order first

"Can I have a salad .Nothing special on it just lettuce, tomato,mushrooms, pickles ,olives with the dressing on the side please."

The look she gave me was one of confusion.Had no one ever ordered anything but a grease buffett from the menu ? Oh and a bottled water ."

"I'll have the usual Francine except I want fries not onion rings" he said as he handed the menu over.

Francine nodded smiling "New disciple Jayden ? And it'll be up pretty quick Paul's on today "

I could smell her cheap perfume mixed with grease and I wanted to vomit.Excusing myself I found the restroom as I  debate on whether or not to sneak the hell out of this place .The smells were nauseating and I didn't know how much more of them I could handle 

She's new to town so I figured I'd break her in but if don't hush I won't get to. Don't mess this up for me like last time Frannie." He scolded the older woman.

"Shut up Jayden I ain't gonna ruin nuttin for you.That girl is not your usual type. Competin  with your brother again?"

"There is no competition woman. I will have her or no one will" he snarled

"Don't be a douche Knight she's not much younger than you which is new for you . "

I made my way back to the table and slid back into the chair watching Francine walk through the doors marked kitchen. I didn't know what to say to Jayden. My nerves were in overdrive.Why had I agreed to this ?What if we got caught leaving school?My mom would kill me.

"You ok sweetheart? You were in there for a while.

"Girl problems" I lied hoping Jayden would take the hint.

Francine returned with our orders. I studied my salad as Jayden dug into his food.

The old rock station playing throughout the diner made me feel better about the silence that lingered while we sat in silence ,Jayden munching loudly on his food as I played with an olive on my plate with my fork.
