After Devon had reluctantly accepted Selena's weird demand, she offered to drive her home when the later had actually lost her car keys, it's not as if Selena couldn't just call her driver to pick her up, but for some unexplainable reason she wanted to spend few more minutes with the chocolate skinned girl, so without any hesitation she agreed.
On the way to the cheerleader's house, the atmosphere was heavy, Selena was confused by her own behavior, Devon's presence affected her, was she shy? Nervous? Devon on the other side, was unsure of what she's supposed to feel, happy...because... well, Selena admired something about her, or scared because the way that she treated her was unpredictable, especially after the encounter between her and the cheerleader's boyfriend earlier that day.
" would you mind if i put some music?",the brunette asked suddenly, "Go ahead..", Devon replied not taking her eyes off the road, Selena reached out and plugged in her phone ,searching for a song that would be a good distraction from the heavy tension that filled the small car.
Seconds after, Elvis Presley's Can't help falling in love with you echoed from the speakers, Devon tried to ignore the stinging inside her chest, but the way Selena was unconsciously humming with the song, reminded her of the way her mom used to lose herself with the rythm, not to mention that the last time she heard that song was on 9-19, 11years ago.
"That's my house..", Selena's sudden voice startled her, forcing her to hit the brakes abruptly to avoid losing control of the car, propelling them forward, when it stopped Devon dropped her head where her hands held the steering wheel, her knuckles turned white due to the amount of pressure she was putting into her clutch, the cheerleader loosened the grip of her left hand on the seat she was occupying while keeping the other on her moving uncontrollably chest, both girls were panting neither said a word, ten minutes passed until they both calmed from the shock, Selena opened her eyes casting a glance at the black skinned girl who still had her head resting on the steering wheel but her grasp was no longer tight.
"I'm sorry...",both girls said, locking eyes straight after, "it was my fault I wasn't paying attention..so don't apologise", Selena was bout to respond but a knock on the glass interrupted her, with a confused look Devon opened the window on her side,"hello young ladies.... I saw what happened minutes ago I wanted to make sure you're ok are", a uniformed muscular man asked with a look of concern that turned into surprise when his eyes fell on the cheerleader," sorry, Miss Selena, I didn't recognize the car, are you ok?",his body language changed into more of a respectful and well behaved manner,"Don't worry Mr.yankee, I'm ok, can you open the gates please."
At that moment the black skinned girl understood what was happening, when the man who happend to be the security guard went inside a small room and pressed some buttons, click, and the gates started to open, it took Devon a while to hit on the accelerator pedal, fascinated by the view looming proudly behind the creaky gates.
The house or mansion to be more specific looked like a cut out from Architects Today magazine. It was beautiful, but not in the sentimental old ways that reflected a family place.
The sides were polished concrete and the door a shiny stainless steel. The windows were taller than a man and more reflective somehow, like if you went right up to them and pressed your face to the glass you still wouldn't see a thing. Around the house was more polished concrete making paths, patios and planters, flanked by rows of skeletal trees crowned in crimson, swaying gently to the chilly autumn wind. In the middle of the view stood the delicate marble fountain, the soft gurgling of the clear water melodic as it resonated in the surrounding silence.Devon parked in front of what looked like a marble white royal stair, still processing the tiniest details, her architectural instincts were feeding her curiosity, she was one of these young people who had always been fascinated by their parents' job, she wanted to be an architect ever since she witnessed the sparkle that ignited her father's orbs, when she told him, she wants to follow their path, but still they had a different taste, Michel had a thing for the modern style, while she was like her mother, more into the old architectural ways that were artistic more than geometric.
