You're The One // SWV

Enrique Carson

I realized that maybe I had been a little too caught up in Weston to take care of my own actual relationship. I mean at some point Veronica and I had been a great couple and I wasn't going to just throw that away for someone I had just met. The problem was Weston and I had a connection that was undeniable, maybe we were platonic soulmates or some shit in another life.

I approached Veronica's door knocking softly, I kind of hoped no one would answer. I had been what I would call, on a hiatus. Unfortunately, her brother opened the door. He seemed like he had gotten taller or something, "Hey Enrique. Come in, does Veronica know you're here? She doesn't seem to be fond of you these days." He stood about two inches taller than me but I could have sworn he was shorter than me. I had been so focused on the height that I hadn't noticed Samuel had walked off, probably getting Veronica. I looked around the house seeing the pictures of their mom and dad.

Being here is this house felt different than it had in the past, I used to feel like a family member being greeted as I passed the threshold into open arms. This instance was different the vibrant pictures had dulled just as my love for Veronica has began to dwindle. I felt a tap on my shoulder as I stood in a trance staring at the Veronicas parents, "Hey, haven't seen you in a while." Her voice was different, there was something in her tone that made me shiver.

"Yeah I just that maybe we should go out somewhere." I said forcing a smile onto my lips. Her eye lit up just like old times as she said a quick, "Let me get my purse."

Veronica quickly retrieved her purse, a smile still etched onto her face as she led the way out the house and into my car. The car ride was silent until I asked, "Where do you want to go?"

"You picked me up without knowing where we are going?" She questioned, even in her tone her smile had disappeared. I side eyed her as her head slanted to the side, her earrings swaying as she did so.

"I wanted to be spontaneous." I lied, I only came because I felt like she was becoming a tad bit suspicious of time spent with a friend.

She made a noise folding her arms, "What are we doing Enrique?" I did not answer, I continued to drive and focus on the road trying not to think about things that are only going to leave me unsatisfied. "Pull over. I don't care where."

My mind knew what was going to happen, Veronica was going to end up arguing with me and I was going to give into her and we would make out never making it to the actual deed. As the car came to a halt in a random parking lot her body shifted towards mine. Her brown hair was pulled back showing her full face as she continued to examine my every move. I stared out into the cloudy skies, rain ready to burst at the seams. She continued to stare, "Are you fucking her?"
