Nathan
The next night we arrived in Cancun. A quick layover before taking a private boat elsewhere. Dracula barely said a word to me after landing and I began to question what the problem might be. His face was gray, drained of blood as it were. And he walked in a manner that made him feel tense. Even his skin was sensitive to my touch as I tried to hold his hand. We walked through a crowded marketplace near the water's edge. But on a night like this I stayed close as much as possible out of fear that we might get separated.
In a makeshift tent somewhere between a fish stand and exotic fruit, a mysterious woman appeared. Dressed from head-to-toe in a garment that was ragged and tattered with a corset for a top and a red bandanna that covered her long dark hair. Her lips were a soft pink, the color of roses and the jewelry around her neck looked authentic. I easily identified this woman as some sort of gypsy or a make believe psychic who was out to make a fast buck. Quickening my pace, I tried to force Dracula to do the same, that is, until she called out to both of us.
"You there," she said in a strong accent that I could not make out. "I can sense that you are troubled. Please, step inside my tent and all will be revealed."
"No, thank you." I replied.
"I know what is wrong with you vampire. Dracula the Impaler."
Dracula stopped and turned. "How do you know what I am?"
"I am a gypsy. While other's call me an oracle. I've been bestowed upon a great power that always me to see certain things. And as such, the answer to your problem."
"Dracula. Let's not do this. She's a fake." I whispered.
But he didn't listen. Instead, he walked toward her and stepped inside as she looked at me and waited to see what I would do. I stood there annoyed, watching her while she watched me. Then finally I broke and went after the King of Romania as she lowered the heavy cloth and sat on the ground in front of a small table. I was forced to sit down but kept my opinions about the woman to myself as she closed her eyes and exhaled slowly. Then she said, "You've certainly come a long way haven't you. Yes, I can see it in your eyes."
"What else do you see?" Dracula asked.
"I see that you were once human. But turned into a vampire by a witch for loving another. And so she put you to sleep and locked you in a tomb for many centuries, until Nathan freed you."
"How do you know my name?"
The gypsy looked at me and smirked, feeling amused. "Please, if you will allow me to finish. For months, your love blossomed while at the same time Dracula, you sired two new vampires. Then you got engaged and attempted to get married but of course Nathan chickened out in the end and ran away."
"Bitch." I muttered.
"Yes, yes, that's all very well and good," Dracula said. "Now, get to the point."
