Nathan
The first floor was nothing more than rose upon rose of offices that suffice it to say was no more than a dead end. I barely left the elevator as the doors closed once again, and I pushed a button for the second floor. Getting closer, I thought, noticing strange people in white protective suits with masks to cover their faces. And once on the third floor, I finally found my next objective. A lone man walked down the corridor in front of me as I followed him around the corner and watched as he went into an even fancier office with a hand-scanner as a locking mechanism.
I sprinted in time to slip my hand through the crack and quietly shut the door behind me as the man hung up his jacket. He could see my reflection in the tinted glass that was in front of him. I raised my gun and stepped forward as he turned to face me.
"I'd be careful with that gun, boy. Makes a terrible bang."
"Good to know." I glanced at his desk where a nameplate listed him as Head of Security. "You must have full access given your current position."
"It has its perks. Plus the pay isn't bad either."
"Perks that allow you to move freely throughout this facility. And what I need is to be granted access to the sixth floor. You're men took something from me and I want it back."
He chuckled. "You must really be stupid. How the hell did you even get inside anyways?"
"That doesn't matter. The question is whether or not you're going to help me."
"And if I don't?"
"Then I hold you at gunpoint and offer you as dinner to the vampire upstairs."
His eyes widened. "So for once the rumors were true. Dracula does exist."
"Yes. Now give me your keycard."
"I'll do you one better. Let me take you there, myself. I know the way and can help you slip past the guards."
I considered. "Deal. But if I notice a flaw in the plan at any moment. I will not hesitate to shoot. Understand?"
He nodded, grabbing his jacket again as he buttoned it closed and walked right out the door. We reached the elevator with my gun placed against his ribcage as he pulled out his keycard and scanned it using some kind of reader. Then the screen changed from blue to green with words flashing saying ACCESS GRANTED. A jolt rocked the car as I steadied myself by holding onto the railing and sensed the change in direction between floors.
"What else is on the sixth floor?" I asked.
"Dangerous and deadly creatures, ancient texts from the Old World. You know, the usual stuff."
"And I take it the U.S. Government doesn't know you exist."
"That's correct."
"Then who runs this place and why."
When he didn't respond and the elevator crawled to a stop, I knew we had arrived on the sixth floor. A huge laboratory with scientists working around the clock experimenting on strange and scary-looking creatures made me believe that anything was possible. In the center of the laboratory was a strange metal cage that had a table with a body lying under a white sheet. The body was hooked up to a machine with a couple of blood bags connected by IV's into its arm. My heart sunk in my chest at the thought of Dracula under that sheet.
But I couldn't get inside. The cage was designed to be a like a dome and its bars were made from the thickest steel imaginable. I looked around and noticed another scanner as I aimed my gun at the Head of Security.
"Open it."
"I can't. I don't have the authorization."
"Then who the fuck does?"
"I do."
Dr. Jekyll
I turned to see a man dressed in casual work clothes wearing a white lab coat. He was middle-aged with bright green eyes, and salt and pepper hair. He walked in a very distinct manner as he approached the scanner and pressed his hand on it. The front of the cage opened as an alarmed sounded nearby, probably telling us to stand clear. Then the doctor headed inside as I followed and approached the side of the examining table. As he pulled the sheet back, my eyes filled with tears at the sight of Dracula being whole again.
I touched his face and smoothed his hair. "I'm here, baby. I've come to free you from this place."
"I'm afraid that won't be possible," the doctor said. "You see, the man before you is no longer the Dracula that you once knew. He's been chemically altered to help us with our own vampire problem. A problem that's been brewing for some time."
"No. No, no. You're lying!"
"Perhaps you'd like to see him in action, then."
He reached for the IV as I switched targets and cocked the hammer. "Don't you touch him!"
But he didn't listen and went straight for the IV as I fired off a shot. The bullet entered his left shoulder, but it didn't faze him. I fired four more shots only to see him still standing in the end. I readied to fire again as he leapt over the table and punched me so hard that I thought my head was gonna fall from my body. Looking up at him from the ground, I noticed a change in his face. A face that looked almost inhuman as his eyes appeared black before returning to normal.
"What the fuck are you?"
He sighed heavily. "My name is Dr. Jekyll. Pleased to meet you, Nathan."
"You—you know my name."
"Course I do. It's my right as a father to do so."
"Father...you mean as in..."
"Dracula is my son."
Author's Note: Hello and Merry Christmas guys! I hope everyone got what they wished for. I know I did, but sadly my gift won't be arriving until the second week of January :( Anyways, I hope you guys liked this chapter. Unfortunately I'm not happy about it because I know I could've done better. And it's more dialogue rather than narrative which I'm not a fan of. So I'm hoping the next chapter will be much better.
