toby: "(y/n), come onnnn!" he whined, pulling you by the arm, trying to get you to come outside with him.
"toby, its cold!" you whined, trying to resist his pulling.
"put on a jacket! it's snowing for crying out loud!" the two of you had a long distance relationship, you living in connecticut, and he in florida, and he had come to visit you for winter break.
"tobyyy!" you whined.
"i never see snow! please, (y/n)?" he begged, pulling a pouty puppy face that he knew you couldn't resist.
"ugh, fine!" you replied. "let me get a jacket."
"yes! thank you, (y/n)," he said, kissing your cheek.
"yeah, yeah, yeah." a few minutes later, you came down bundled up in your snow gear, and he all but yanked you out the door.
"let's have a snowball fight!" he exclaimed.
"toby, i don't think..." before you could finish your sentence, a ball of fresh snow pegged you right in the face. you could hear toby laughing, as you wiped your face off. "you want a snowball fight? i'll give you a snowball fight," you muttered, packing snow between your hands like your dad taught you when you were young. making a snowball that was easily the size of his head, you took aim and fired, nailing him in the face. he immediately stopped laughing.
"(y/n)!" he whined. "that was cold!"
"it's snow, toby!" you said, ruffling his hair as you walked past. "of course it's cold."
"is it? really?" he asked.
"duh, why...whoa!" you cried. you hadn't realized what he was doing, until you felt the back of your hoodie being tugged on, and felt snow running down your back. he quickly ran away, cackling as he went. "toby james mcdonough, i hate you!" you cried, chasing after him.
"you don't hate me!" he called back. "i know for a fact that you love me!" your pace slowed as his words hit you. you two had never formally said it, but you had felt it, but you weren't sure on how to tell him.
"incoming!" you'd been so caught up in your thoughts, that you hadn't noticed toby running towards you. he skidded to a stop, running smack into you, resulting in the both of you falling to the snow-covered ground. "hi," he said, a grin spreading across his face as he landed on top of you, kissing your nose.
"how did you know i love you?" you asked.
"you talk in your sleep," he said. "when you were napping yesterday, i heard you say it."
"toby, why did you bring it up? it's a serious matter, not something to joke about," you replied, feeling a little self-conscious that he had addressed it so casually.
"well, i love you too, so i figured it wasn't a problem," he said with a shrug. "i'm sorry if i offended you."
"you love me?" you asked, your heart speeding up and blood rushing to your cheeks, despite the cold weather.
"what's not to love?" he asked, and you pulled him closer by his jacket, pressing your lips to his. when you pulled back, he was grinning. "what was that for?"
"i love you too," you replied with a smile, which soon turned into a devilish grin. "and it was a distraction."
"from what?"
"this." you took a handful of snow, dropping it down the back of his jacket, and sliding out from under him, running away.
"ah! i hate you!" he called, trying desperately to get the snow out of his jacket as he ran after you.
