Today is a special day," the priest announced. Dougie repositioned himself, his thigh now pressing up against my knee. I moved my leg closer to the other. My brother was already so happy that Dougie and I were sitting beside each other at his wedding; I couldn't have any rumours sparked today, for the sake of my brother.
"Today is the day that Peyton Kellington and Jeffrey Harvery officially make their love known to everyone. Today is the day that Peyton takes Jeffrey as her husband and today is the day that Jeffrey makes Peyton his wife."
Already, I could tell this priest has a fetish with the word "today is". Again, Dougie repositioned himself and yet again, his thigh was pressing against my knee. Now, I slid closer to Adam, he wrapped his arm around my waist. I melted into his side.
The ceremony went on for a while, the priest talked about anything. Everyone here was just waiting for the vows to get out of here and get onto the party. Let's be honest, that's the best part about weddings; you get ridiculously drunk and anything happens. Sometimes that "anything happens" is usually bad, but sometimes it means that something great is going to happen.
Either way, I would be with Adam for the whole night, trying to avoid my brother's best man, Logan. Ah, Logan. We have so many stories together; in this case with Logan, "anything happens" is always a bad thing. Logan was... well, Logan. A guy that couldn't wait to get out of school, start partying, and being able to go around the world by himself.
After much anticipation, finally the vows were beginning and luckily, they were short ones. The priest brought both of their hands together, facing each other. "Repeat after me, Jeffrey," he said. "I, Jeffrey Harvey."
"I, Jeffrey Harvey," he said with a cheeky grin on his face causing Peyton to smile.
At that time, I zoned out the priest and just focused on my brother's words. "Take thee Peyton Kellington to be my lawfully wedded wife... for better, for worse... for richer, for poorer... in sickness, in health... to love, to cherish... from this day forward until death do us part," he recited.
The priest motioned Logan to bring the rings over to Jeffrey. Logan stood beside him and handed him a golden band. When Jeffrey took the ring, Logan patted him on the shoulder. Jeffrey took the ring and slid it onto one of Peyton's fingers.
They both smiled at one another.
Now Peyton had to do her vows. "I Peyton Kellington... take thee Jeffrey Harvey to be my lawfully wedded husband... for better or for worse... for richer or for poorer... in sickness and in health... to love and to cherish... from this day forward until death do us part."
Logan handed a ring over to Peyton which she took graciously. She forced the ring on my brother's finger. "Don't try to put it on all the way... it'll get stuck," he told her.
"You said that is your ring size, it has to fit," Peyton said.
By now, people were laughing. This was basically the relationship they had with one another, it was usually always joking with each other.
"Father John, if the ring sits at the top of your finger, does that still mean that you're legally married?" Jeffrey asked.
Father John nodded his head. "As long as it is on your finger, you are still married."
Jeffrey breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, good. I don't want to spend a lot of money to get married again."
Logan passed a ring to Jeffrey and took Peyton's hand into his. He put the ring on her hand; right above her beautiful engagement ring that I got to pick out (I was proud of myself that day). Anyways, Peyton looked at Jeffrey with a look that just shouted, "That's how you pick a ring of the correct size."
Father John coughed which brought the attention back to him, just what he wanted. He smiled brightly at both Peyton and Jeffrey. "With the power invested with me, I now announce you both husband and wife. Jeffrey, you may now kiss your wife."
And that they did. Their kiss wasn't a peck on the lips nor was it a make-out session. But it was hot. Father John decided enough was enough and pushed them both apart but they didn't look embarrassed. They looked in love. They turned around and smiled at everyone, holding hands with one another.
Jeffrey looked at me while everyone began clapping for the newly married couple. Jeffrey gave me a thumbs up as I smiled back at him. As Jeffrey and Peyton walked down the aisle together, everyone stood up. Peyton and Jeffrey exchanged many smiles with one another. They looked so in love with each other. That's what love's like. No lies, just pure. Adam wrapped his arm around my waist and kissed me on my temple. I smiled, although it didn't feel right.
Don't get me wrong, I liked Adam very much. It's just not filled with the same passion as I used to have. You don't have to frown at me, I knew it was wrong to to lead one guy on and chase after another guy. My brother found his love, my other brother is hopeless in that department, then there's me. My brother was the one coming to me for advice on who to chase after in high school.
Look who needs advice from him now.
