I push my key in the lock to my apartment. I step into the apartment and horror rushes over me. Now I know what you're expecting me to say: Adam or Dougie or both of them are dead on the ground in a pool of blood front of me. C'mon let's get real here, Boston isn't a city where murders happen every day.
What I will tell you is that I rushed from the front door of the apartment to mine and Adam's bathroom. Once I got into the bathroom I locked the door behind myself and sat down on the cool tiles of the bathroom floor. If you're very confused right now, don't be because you didn't miss anything. Be prepared because I'll begin informing you on everything that's happened since the beginning of the week.
Wednesday
Adam and the rest of the Bruins got back today. After playing a series of four games-one each against the Stars, Kings, Sharks, and Ducks-the boys came home with an overall record of 2-2, with one of their loses handed to them in overtime. But for the most part they all ended up playing well. They have a day off before they play against the Blues tomorrow.
So for the majority of the day, Adam and I bummed around in our apartment while Dougie was getting tested by the physicians at the rink. Adam wouldn't stop telling me stories about what the guys did while they were in their hotel rooms.
Hockey players are nasty.
Then Dougie came home a couple hours later completely tuckered out and hungry. Adam suggested we go out to eat, I wasn't going to make supper, Adam sure as hell wasn't going to make supper, and Dougie wanted to pass out. Going out to eat was the best idea.
Away we went to downtown Boston to have supper with each other. Of course we got stopped along the way to our destination but overall we all had a really great time together.
Thursday
Thursday was back to work for me. I held down the fort at TD Garden the best that I could at the comfort of my home. But now that everyone was back in Boston, I actually had to show up to work and not pretend that I did.
So like I actually had to do, I showed up to the rink. I talked to Claude about everything that happened while he was gone (like I really had a clue though). That lasted for the whole morning; what an exciting morning I had. Right?
Following our meeting, I meet Adam at the entrance to TD Garden. We were going to have lunch together and I kindly asked Adam to bring lunch to the Garden because I couldn't sneak away for even half an hour to eat with him. So we both decided we would just eat at the arena with each other.
Adam bought me a salad with a cinnamon bun for dessert; I can't even begin to say what Adam brought because he bought a multitude of food varieties. We headed into the arena and sat in a couple seats in the stands.
Adam went on about how badly he beat Dougie earlier that morning while playing some game on his Xbox. Really, I didn't give a shit about who beat who. But Adam was going to talk about it no matter what I decided to tell him. That's how my lunch went along; hearing about Adam winning every match against Dougie.
I was so excited to actually get back to work after talking to Adam.
Friday
It was another game day at home; Dougie, Adam, and I bummed around the apartment for most of the morning. I spent a few times during the morning massaging Adam's calf. He pulled a muscle on Wednesday and wanted so desperately to play tonight if he were to get a green light from the authentic medical workers on the team.
