"Not all of us are born vampires.... I wasn't. I was a normal, human being. I had a beautiful girlfriend, a nice house and a descent job. I was completely in love with my girlfriend, Layna (pronounced - laina). I loved her so much.............."

Flashback

"Layna, your so beautiful." I said as I stroked her hair behind her ear. She began to blush as she soaked in what I had said. She was laying next to me, in the hammock outside, with her head upon my chest.

We were hopelessly in love.

She was my everything. I would do anything for her.

She had long, wavy, light brown hair that reached her lower back. She had a small frame and gentle, dark brown eyes. We laid silently as we embraced each other. It was peaceful and quiet.

Suddenly we heard a shatter from inside our house. I began to get up when Layna pulled me back towards her.

"Don't go. Please."

"Stay here. It's probably nothing."

She did as she was told and stayed there while I entered the house, closing the sliding, glass door behind me. I looked around the corner to see three photo frames smashed on the ground and two sets of feet. I quickly snapped my head back as my breathing picked up. I slowly crept back down the hall and picked up my baseball bat from junior high, that had been leaning against the wall of my bedroom. I walked back to the living room and leaped out with the baseball bat above my head, ready to strike.

I went to smash it into the first guys back when he spun around and caught it in his hand. He used his free hand to pick me up by my throat and throw me against the wall keeping the bat with himself.

I began to get up, feeling an unbelievable pain through my entire body.

"What are you?" I said, my voice hoarse and shaky.

"I'm....a.....vampire." He said in a deep voice as a smirk appeared across his face.

"Don't joke around, boy."

"I'm as serious as can be. I'm not joking around and I'm certainly NOT a boy!"

He raced over to me in the blink of an eye. He stared intently into my eyes as if peering into my soul.

"I'm gonna be nice. Instead of killing you, I'm going to turn you. Better than dying isn't it?"

Before I could respond, he latched his hand onto my throat, pulled me towards him and sunk his teeth into my left artery. I fell to the ground, clutching my neck in pain.

"What....did you.....do to me?" I spoke through gritted teeth.

"Gave you a gift."

Suddenly I felt fine, but something was different.

I jumped up with ease. I didn't understand what was happening. I started to feel pain in my upper gum. I opened my mouth as I felt my teeth reform into points. My tongue ran over the two new spikes that had formed in my mouth. I turned around and walked straight to the back door, where Layna was. I put my hand on the latch and went to turn it. I was going to kill her. I had this irresistible urge for blood, and she was the closest source. I looked at her scared body as she began to run toward me.

What was I doing? I couldn't kill her. I loved her. I certainly wasn't going to drink her blood.

I turned the latch and locked the door. I began to walk toward the front exit when the vampire guy blocked my path. I could hear Layna's faint cries from the back yard as she banged on the sliding door.

"You were supposed to kill her!"

"I love her, I'm not going to kill her. By the way, it was a mistake to turn me into this, because if you EVER lay a finger on her, I'll kill you, and now I can."

I dragged him and his silent partner outside and threw them onto the road. They sped off without another word. I had to stay away from Layna, at least until I could control this.

It had been a month when I decided to come home. I knocked on the front door and waited a minute before the handle turned and the door opened. A very shaken Layna was revealed. She looked up at me with her hand over her mouth gasping at the person in front of her. I went to pull her into a hug when she slapped me across the face. After a long pause I finally spoke.

"I'm so sorry."

She immediately pulled me into the longest hug of my life. I kissed her forehead as we parted.

"I thought you were dead. Do you have ANY idea how horrible that is?" I looked at the floor as she expressed her feelings. "I know it's not your fault. You didn't have a choice. I'm glad you're back, I don't know what I would've done without you."

"Well luckily you don't have to find out. I'm back, and I'm not going anywhere." She gave me a shy smile as she kissed me.

We began a heated make out session as I closed the door with my foot, leading Layna to the bedroom. To my surprise it hadn't changed one bit. We landed on the bed with her on top. She was straddling me as we continued to passionately kiss.

I pulled back, I couldn't do this anymore. If I went any further I'd probably kill her. She gave me a confused look.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"I'm sorry, I can't."

"Don't be silly. It's fine, you're okay."

"No, you don't understand."

"Please, just try. I've missed you so much." She said in a sexy voice, as she ran her small hand up my shirt.

"Okay."

I continued kissing her, it was extremely passionate. She took my top off and caressed my toned torso. I ran my hands down her back until I found the hem of her shirt. I traced my fingers under the material as they proceeded up her back to her bra. I unclasped it and retreated back onto her hips as she fiddled with my belt.

I felt my fangs beginning to descend as she chucked my belt to the floor. I heard her heart beat in my ears and could see her pulse along her neck. I pulled her over so she was underneath and left soft, wet kisses along her neck. I reached her pulse and I felt my eyes turn red with thirst. I pulled back and looked her in the eyes, my fangs fully descended.

She began to scream when I put my hand over her mouth. I lunged at her neck and sunk my teeth in.......

Flashback over

"I killed her, Madeline." She looked at me, but it wasn't a look of horror or shock, it was of understanding.
