Chapter 4 - Demons are everywhere
Aria
I quietly closed the curtains, not wanting to look at those horrid things anymore. It has already been a day and they were still floating around out there; waiting. They were waiting for me. Their red eyes watching me were burned into my memory, and although darkness had covered the land, I could see them clearly. They were terrifying.I knew Eli was keeping the news of what was going on outside from me, but I didn't have the energy to demand he give me the details. My only concern at the moment was Zane. If I didn't focus on him I would end up going crazy.
"Have you eaten?"
"I'm not hungry."
"Have you slept?"
"I'm not tired."
"Have you done anything other than sit in this room and watch over my brother?"
"No."
"I see. I'm only going to say this because I know Zane and I know what he's like and what he would want you to do in a situation like this. He wouldn't want you to starve or lose sleep. Therefore, I am going to have someone bring up something for you to eat and I'm going to sit with my brother until you shower. Then, you will sleep whether you want to or not. Now if I were you I'd go with the former suggestion. If I have to force you, it won't be pleasant." I got up from the chair and left without saying a word. "Good choice."
I went through the motion of showering and then eating. Those things I could do, but sleep would not come. I told Eli I would sleep on my own, and then and only then could he come and watch over Zane. I struggled for a long while just to get my eyes to close, but still sleep eluded me. Two hours passed and Eli returned.
"You're still awake. I thought so. Here's some warm milk. It will help you sleep."
I didn't want any milk, but I was a guest in his home and to refuse would be rude. So I took the glass of milk he offered and downed it quickly. As soon as I emptied it, my eyes began to droop.
"Did you put something in the milk?"
"It was the only way," he responded.
I didn't get to respond to that, because sleep washed over me shortly after.

I found myself running down a dark alley. The area was unfamiliar. The planet seemed unfamiliar too. Something was chasing me, but I couldn't see what because it was so dark. My ears could only pick up heavy breathing coming from behind me. What was it? I didn't know if it was human or an animal.
I continued running, willing my legs to go faster, but whatever was chasing me seemed to be gaining speed. My heart pounded in my chest. This was it. This was how I was going to die and I wouldn't even know my killer.
A noise which sounded like a sharp object scraping across glass almost deafened me. I had to cover my ears to not let it overpower me and make me lose focus.
I was almost there. I was almost at the end of the alley. I had to get to the end. If I did I would be safe and there would be light. I was so close, just a few more steps, and then it happened. Something appeared in front of me blocking my path to freedom. The light that was there suddenly became dark. I started backing up slowly.
"There is nowhere to go Aria. You can't escape us," they said ominously. The thing got closer and closer and I backed up more until I bumped into something. I didn't turn around immediately because I feared what I would see, but when another voice joined the first, the scream I was trying so hard to hold in forced its way out. They kept chanting the same phrase over and over. "We are you and you are us." When they finally stopped, a claw-like hand reached out for me. I tried to protect myself as best as I could, but I only ended up getting scratches down my arm. They were wearing me down. These abnormal creatures surrounded me, willing me to give up until I actually did. I sank to my knees in the dark alley and prayed for them to end my life quickly and painlessly. I waited and waited, but nothing happened, and death never came.
