Chapter 9 - Too late

Zane
Too late...Fuck! I was not expecting that. It all happened so fast. By the time the vision ended he was already dead. Kyle Ross was dead. She wasn't even thinking. She lost all reasoning. She snapped his neck, right there in front of everyone. I massaged my head as she stood there shocked by what she had done. I bet she didn't even know what happened. There was no possible way she could have gotten across the parking lot so fast. She didn't have that power, but I did.

What the hell is going on?

"Are you going to stand there all day and wonder about it? Get control of the situation. Do you really want to explain to their Queen why your mate killed one of their citizens? Why did she kill him anyway? And so violently. The way in which she snapped his neck was pure art."

"Shut up! Just shut the hell up!"

Eli wasn't my priority right now. Aria was. She stood in the same spot shaking violently. Now wasn't the time to ask questions. I had to take control of the situation. I had to make it go away.

I found my way to her side quickly. As much as I wanted to console her, I had to take care of the problem at hand first. Kyle Ross had not been alone. He was with other people who looked as scared and confused as Aria was. They were still in shock. That worked in my favour. It was easier for me to erase their memories if they were in that state. By the time I was finished with them, they didn't know who Kyle Ross was, and had no memory whatsoever of him. I even convinced them to move to a different town far away. It was the best I could do for them and for us.

Once that was taken care of, I turned my attention to Aria. She still had that shocked look on her face. When she looked down at the body, her shock mixed with some level of fear, fear of what she had done and what the consequences would be.

"What...what...what did I just do?" One hand covered her mouth and she looked to me for answers. "Is he dead?"

"Yes."

"How...how? Did I...?"

"Yes."

A sob escaped from her lips. She was still shaking. Her mind was racing. Her thoughts were all jumbled and her heart was racing a mile a minute.

"You'll give yourself a heart attack if you don't calm down."

She didn't respond. She shut herself down completely and fell to her knees right there in the parking lot.

"I'm a murderer," she whispered to herself. Although I already knew what she was thinking, it hurt me to hear her say that about herself.

"You're not a murderer. It's not like he didn't deserve it. Besides, if you hadn't done it, I probably would have."

"But how? How...?"

She fell silent. Her eyes strayed to his lifeless body again, and I saw the grief stricken way she looked. Her body continued trembling. I ran my fingers through my hair.

"This one is on you big bro. You should have stopped her. That guilt is going to eat away at her for the rest of her life. You should have paid closer attention to your mate. Why do you insist on not using your gift of sight? We have it for a reason."

I'd had just about enough of Eli for one evening. So I did something I hadn't done in years, I blocked his access to my mind. A move like this was dangerous. Having our connection open gave us more strength. Putting a block up against our link weakens that strength. But I didn't care. I didn't need his "I told you so" right now.
