Y/n pov
i woke up from a nightmare, in cold sweats. i look over and Katara is fast asleep, while Momo is up with a strange feeling. i felt it too and walk out of the tent to see smoke in the air. not even a minute later Toph wakes up with a concerned look. She has an untrusting gaze in her eyes when it comes to me.
"it feels like a strange rumbling is approaching"
"we better wake everyone up" i say as i walk to the tent to wake katara and toph wakes the boys. we all pack up and quickly fly away on opaa. seeing it as we head away, Azula was definitely in that vehicle. the fire nation symbol was on it, aang looked displeased.
"why are they following us?"
"i don't know Aang, you are the avatar. Azula can be sweet but she's on this dark race for power. she want's it all"
finally finding a distance we settle down and rest once again, this cycle continues with Azula on our trail. eventually Opaa cannot go on and falls asleep. falling wakes us all up and Aang saves us last minute. everyone is on edge and grumpy as all heck. Katara snaps at Toph about her not helping, being selfish. she snaps back saying she didn't have to come. Toph runs off in a huff.
"good job princess Katara, now Aangs teacher is gone" Sokka yells in a sarcastic tone.
"well excuse me for wanting a little equality for everyone"
"everyone needs to calm down, we can't fight when we gotta focus on the task at hand"
"yeah (y/n) is right" Aang has my back, i knew he would.
"the problem here is Opaa is shedding" i pet opaa to show everyone how bad it is. we are all in agreement that we bathe him and send Azula in the wrong direction. i hope this works.
Aang and i go a different direction with a bag of opaas fur while katara and sokka escape. we end up in a small abandoned town, destruction everywhere. Aang tells me to go find the others but i refuse. i wanna fight too, prove myself to my new friends. I want peace more than anyone here, itll happen. it has to! an hour passes of us waiting as Azula appears.
"well if it isn't the avatar, you think we're stupid. right about now your little water tribe friends are prisoners"
i step out from the place i was hiding with a surprised expression on her face.
"(y/n)! what are you doing?"
"bringing peace to this world, i'm sorry Azula"
i earth bend and knock her on her feet, she has a hurt expression on her face that turns to rage. she begins attacking Aang and i. we fight like an unstoppable team. out of no where a flame attacks Aang. i turn around to see Zuko. wide eyed he takes a step back. "(y/n)?" Aang uses his earth bending to knock him on his feet.
"zuzu, would you kindly help me defeat these traitors?"
Zuko stays silent and then proceeds to knock Azula down a peg. literally kicking her on her feet.
"me help you? when have you ever helped me? you're out of your mind Azula"
"this is why father banished you! you're a disgrace to the family"
"shut up!"
the fighting continues, three against one hardly seems fair but it's the fight Azula wanted. i hear a rustling and out of no where Iroh and Toph show up. Azula smirks and takes the opportunity to use lightning to take Iroh down. then she runs off without a second thought.
"you evil witch!" Zuko screams out and falls to his knees. tearing up at the betrayal.
"zuko..." Aang tries to reach out but he snaps.
"don't touch me! this is your fault!"
"this isn't his fault Zuko!" i yell at him.
"you're seriously on his side?" zuko's cold stare tore my soul to shreds.
"Aang didn't do anything, it was Azula we all know that. besides katara can heal him if you just come with us!"
"pfft no thanks, i want nothing to do with the avatar and his friends!"
"stop being so childish, uncle iroh is seriously injured!"
"stop acting like he's your uncle, when have you been there?"
"are you really saying that to me? we all grew up together! i did everything i could to help both of you!"
"yeah like when?"
"when you were banished who was the one to make sure you were healthy and safe?"
"sure as hell wasn't you"
"shut up! you privileged asshat!"
"can you both relax, Iroh's fine" a quiet Toph says to us.
"we just need to find a place to bring him" Aang follows up. suddenly opaa shows up with katara and sokka. katara and toph make up and we fly Zuko and Iroh to a safe place. as they settle i talk to the group about staying behind to make sure Zuko doesn't do anything stupid. they understood and went on their way. i don't plan on going back to the fire nation. not after this. Iroh rests up which leaves Zuko and i alone.
"hey, i'm sorry i lost my cool (y/n)"
"lost it? you never had it" i laugh softly and he frowns
"i'm serious i should of never snapped at you like that"
"Zuko i'm serious too, it doesn't bug me. we fight all the time! remember when mei had the biggest crush on you and Azula made you two go in the fountain?"
"yeah what about it?"
"i got so jealous and when you weren't looking i threw a rock at you"
"oh yeah i remember that fight, wait jealous?"
"you really were clueless back then, you still are."
"about what?"
"i like you dumby"
his face turned a shade of red and i smiled.
"clueless as ever zuko"
we sat there in silence for a while when Iroh woke up confused.
"say (y/n) what are you doing here?"
"i decided to stay, plus i couldn't of left knowing you were hurt"
"well i'm feeling better so you don't have to worry"
"you know me Iroh, i will always worry"
we all had a good laugh reminiscing of back then, when the world felt bigger because we were smaller. this is my family and i wish for the peace more than anything.
