Chapter 1

I walked to school in the pouring rain trying to cover my backpack in fear that the rain would wet my laptop.

It was like this pretty much every morning, wake up, walk in the rain, come home, go to bed.

I never had time for anything else, I was always studying.

I was never the popular kid, always the so called "nerd" who no one wanted to hang out with.

I had never had a boyfriend (no surprise there) or a best friend.

I live in the city and I'm 15 years old.

Ok, back to the story, where was I?

Oh yeah waking in the rain.

The grey storm clouds matched my personality, frustrated.

We had exams coming up and I was cramming in every thing I could.

Wether it was how to find area, or what Abraham Lincoln's middle name was, I had to study it all.

I finally got to school and folded up my wet umbrella. And set it by the door. I put my somewhat wet backpack on my shoulders and walked into the prison, oh I'm sorry, I mean school.

You have your usual groups of students, the jocks, the preps, the mean girls, the cheerleaders, and the nerds. You probably never would have guessed, but I'm considered in the nerd group (note my sarcasm).

I kept my head down and slowly walked to my locker. I got to my locker and put my books in it. As I shut the door I hear running coming from down the hall followed by heavy footsteps.

A boy with jet black hair runs past me and winks. After he zooms past I see the biggest bully in the school, Bryce Jefferson, stomping after him. "You're gonna be sorry you said that Jackson!" He says as he passes by. It takes me a couple seconds to comprehend what had happened, why was he running, why was Bryce chasing him, why did that new kid wink at me? All the questions go around my head in circles. I just ignore them and head to first period.

Class is long and boring, as usual. (Just because people call me a nerd doesn't mean I actually like school). I take my eyes of the teacher and glance to my right, I see that same boy, the one that winked at me. He saw me glancing in his direction and quickly hid his face. I guess all the confidence he had before was gone.

After several long classes, school finally ends for the day. I walk to my locker and grab my books, I stuff them in my backpack and just as I'm about to leave I hear someone shout at me. "Hey!" I turn my head and raise my eyebrow confused. I see the same boy who winked at me earlier that day. He sheepishly walks over to me and smiles. "I'm Percy, Percy Jackson," he says sticking out his hand for me to shake. I grab it and reply, "I'm Annabeth, Annabeth Chase."

"Nice to meet you."

I nod and let go of his hand not realizing that I was still holding it.

His face turned as red as mine felt and he turned around. "See ya later," he said waving to me as he headed down the hall.

I don't quite know why, but something about him made me have butterflies in my stomach, like I could kiss him right there and not have one single regret. But, I don't know, I'm probably just a stupid teenage girl with a stupid high school crush.
