Dani's POV

*Dani's POV*
"Freak!"
"Stupid!"
"Fat!"
"Mute!"
My peers shout out at me as I walk through the old hallways of the 100 year-old school building. Yep, not cool.
You probably have guessed that I haven't talked since I've been here. You are correct. Nobody here likes me, even the teachers! Well, except for one boy. He just ignores me. Haha you thought that was going to be sincere, right? Wrong. It sucks. Anyway, back to the story.
"Welcome, Danielle. You're late... again." Mr.Stanley says in his monotonous voice as kids snicker at me. I ignore them and sit next to the boy I just told you about. "Okay, class. Like I said 5 seconds ago, turn in your history books to page 253. This unit will be covering the Civil War."
"Hey, mute, why don't you go back to that stupid little orphanage of yours and never come back, huh? The whole school-Wait no, world would be better off without you." Some boy says from behind my seat. The boy beside me growls.
"Could you maybe leave her alone for once?!" He asks, standing up and walking over to Jerk Boy.
"Maximus, please sit down." Mr.Stanley glares over his glasses to Max.
"First off, sir, it's Max, not Maximus, and second, I am sick and tired of everybody bullying Dani. It's getting worse. Yeah, I may ignore her, but it's just because I know she needs her space sometimes. Please, stop." Max pleads, making me blush a little. Dani... I like that nickname a lot.
"Very sweet, Maximus, but I told you to sit down. Now do as I told you." I can tell Mr.Stanley isn't fazed by Max's words. Max and I both roll our eyes at the same time as Max sits down. "What were the names of the two sides fighting?"

I sigh as I close the front door of the orphanage. Another day of helplessly watching kids get adopted. At least I don't ever get to leave, otherwise the kids wouldn't be able to consider me as their big sister.
I remember the first time one of the kids told me about what they call me. She was a sweet little 4 year named Macey. Red, curly locks, tall for her age, excellent vocabulary, smile warms up my heart. That Macey. Since then, my nickname has been "Big sis". It's sweet, really.
Now do you see why I like it here? You would too if it were you. Honestly, I look forward to coming here everyday after a bad day at school.
"Big sis, is that you?" Karly sniffles. I turn around and nod. "I have a booboo." She pulls her jeans up to show that she had scraped her knee. I gently kiss it and hug her, rubbing her back. Weakly smiling, Karly walks off to play with her friends again. I smile and run upstairs before dumping my backpack onto my bed and starting on my homework.
After doing my homework, I get up and go downstairs to cook dinner. I decide to cook spaghetti since I know everybody here likes it.
After making the spaghetti and setting it out for the children, I tap Paige's arm, signaling for her to call for the others. As the kids file into the room, I carefully slip out the front door and sit on the bench around the corner. I close my eyes, taking in the features of this fall day.
"Hello? Uh, excuse me. Can you please help me? I'm looking for the orphanage. Can you show us the way?" An Australian accent fills the air. My eyes snap open and I quickly stand up, nodding. I motion for the couple to follow, which they do. I lead them inside and hand them over to Paige, who was already done eating.
"I'll be the one to show you around, since Danielle there doesn't speak." She motions to me, making me blush in embarrassment. I wave shyly and go back outside after grabbing the old guitar by the front door. Again, I sit on the bench. Strumming random chords, I attract attention from Karly.
"Big sis, Can you please do that one song you always do? I wanna get Mary, Kyle, Malissa, and Claire to sing to the guests with me." She asks, putting on her irresistible puppy-dog eyes. I nod, making her squeal and run off. I finger the chords to 'We Are Never Getting Back Together' by Taylor Swift. Believe it or not, for a 6 year-old (Karly), 10 year-old (Mary), 7 year-old (Kyle), 12 year-old (Malissa), and 9 year-old (Claire), they actually sound like they should be selling albums already!
Karly returns, dragging the couple behind her along with the four others. The woman waves, a confused look stretched across her face, as well as the man.
"We just wanted to sing for you guys. I think this is called 'We Are Never Getting Back Together' by Taylor Swift. Am I right, Big sis?" The couple smile warmly at Kyle's nickname for me. I nod at Kyle and start strumming the begging of the song.

"I think we'll take Karly and Kyle. They're really talented, you know?" The woman smiles. I nod and bend down to Karly's height.
"I'm gonna miss you sissy." She sobs as I pull her into a tight hug, tears streaming down my face as well. She clutches my shirt tightly and I pick her up, setting her on my hip. I give a nod to her new parents and kiss Karly's forehead, handing her over to a better life. Kyle does basically the same thing, but afterwards he hands me an envelope with 'Danielle' written in cursive. I smile and hug him again before he runs up to his new parents.
Once he reaches the car, he turns back and waves before getting in the backseat. I wipe my tears and comfort the other three with hugs. This happens practically everyday.
I just cant wait until it's my turn.
