Chapter 18

{Dani's POV}

"Well..." A long pause follows.

"Just tell me!" I say, exasperated.

"Would you mind being our daughter?" Jesy asks. I grin and turn around, not wanting them to see. I think it through.

If I say yes, I could see them a lot.

If I say no, then I could stay and help out with the kids.

But if I say yes, I'll have a family.

And if I say no, I'll probably see Alec, Alyssa and Max more often.

Crap, Alyssa! I forgot about her! I can't leave her!

"I'd love to." I mentally slap myself. The girls squeal.

"Yay! Let's go." Leigh grabs my hand and we all five run into the orphanage. Thankfully the owner is here today.

"Hey, we'd like to adopt Danielle." Perrie couldn't hide her excitement.

I hear a crashing sound beside me, making me turn toward it. Alyssa was standing there in shock, not moving a muscle.

"Alyssa, wait-" I start, just before she darts up the stairs. I ignore the broken glass of water and run upstairs, following Alyssa. She closes the door in my face.

Just great.

"Alyssa, please let me in!" I beg, a tear running down my cheek. "Please." My voice cracks.

"No. Go away. You're leaving anyway." She snaps from the other side of the door. I sigh and slide down the door, hugging my knees to my chest.

"But I still have time." I mutter sadly.

"Go spend that time with that new family." The anger doesn't leave her voice.

"I wanna spend it with you, Alyssa. Not them." Another tear runs down my cheek.

"What's the point? You're just going to leave me here." Sadness takes over her voice as we talk through the door. "They always do." She whispers, thinking that I hadn't heard it.

"But I'm not they. And I won't leave you forever." I say, letting her know that I heard it.

"Sure, whatever. Come in." She unlocks the door and I scramble to my feet, instantly walking inside.

"I'm so sorry. I don't want to leave you." I whimper, looking down. She sighs, motioning for me to sit next to her on her bed.

"I don't want you to leave either. But hey, you have a family now." She smiles through her tears. I hug her tightly.

"You'll always be my friend, no matter what. Don't forget it." She hugs me tighter.

"I won't." Her voice cracks. "Okay, we should pack your things." She says, wiping her tears and standing up.

"Can that wait? Packing just breaks it to me that I'm leaving." I say, grabbing her arm gently. She nods and sits back down.

"We should cuddle for the last of the time that we have together." She mumbles, shocking me. She never says anything like that. I nod and we lay down on the bed, cuddling.

"I'm going to miss you so much. I'll be lucky if it doesn't kill me." I whisper. She nods.

"Me too."

We cuddle for about 15 more minutes until someone interrupts.

"Dani, you re-" Jesy stops in her tracks, noticing that I was crying. "I'm sorry girls." She mumbles and she sits by our feet. Alyssa sniffs and we stand up.

"I need to pack." I mumble, still not wanting to leave.

"Alright." Jesy stands up and leaves, returning shortly with the girls. Together, all six of us pack up my clothes.

Alyssa frowns as we walk down stairs. Why does sadness have to exist?!

Once we get to the front door, I turn to Alyssa.

"Are you sure you won't forget?" I ask.

"I won't forget."
