Chapter 13

{Dani's POV}

I sigh as I sit down on my bed. Well, school was fun. I grumble in my mind.

"Ugh. School sucks." Alyssa groans as she tosses her backpack into the desk chair, where mine was sitting also. I watch in amusement as her backpack knocks mine of the chair, and Alyssa stares at them. She shrugs and plops onto her bed.

"Well...?" I trail off.

"Yeah...?" She copies me.

"Aren't you going to pick those up?" I smirk as she groans, standing up and fixing them.

"Happy now?" She asks sarcastically, making me laugh slightly.

"Yep!" I grin and skip downstairs. I smile at Melissa and go into the kitchen, washing some of the left over dishes that were still in the sink from breakfast.

What exactly were the girls crying about? They looked absolutely torn.

I shake my head and continue cleaning the dishes.

"Dani?" I turn toward the person, smiling when I see them. "Hey, how are you?" Max asks, grabbing a dish and drying it.

Speak!

I want to surprise him later!

Speak, now.

Okay, okay!

"I'm good. How are you?" I ask, handing him a plate. His eyes widen in shock and he nearly drops the plate, so I take it back.

"Uh, I-I'm good." I hand him the plate again and he dries it. We clean in silence for a few minutes. "So, uh, you talk?" I put a finger to my lips as a little girl walks by, giving me strange looks. I wait until she's out of hearing distance before speaking.

"Yeah, but I only speak to you, Jade, Perrie, Leigh-Anne, Jesy, Alyssa, and Melissa. No one else." I smile, handing him the last dish and draining out the sink. He quickly dries it and we walk up to my room.

"Hey, Dani, I have a- Oh." She cuts herself off when she turns around and sees Max. He chuckles and waves a little. "Hey, I'm Alyssa. You are?" Alyssa smiles, holding her hand out for him to shake.

"Max. I'm a friend of Dani's." Max smiles nervously as he flicks his gaze towards me.

"A freind, huh?" Alyssa smirks. I groan and shove her a little.

"Yes, a friend. Nothing more, okay?" I say and she nods, the smirk still plastered on her face.

"Okay... If you say so." She winks. "I'll leave you two alone." She says in my ear and walks out.

"Nice meeting you!" Max yells at her. "Who was she?" He whispers, making me laugh.

"That was Alyssa, my roomate."

"Oh. Oops." He laughs.

"What are you doing here, exactly? I wasn't trying to be rude or any-"

"Yeah, I know. I just thought I'd stop by, say hi. I hope that wasn't too much, since it was kinda unexpected."

"It's okay." I smile. "I might introduce you to someone. I'm not sure yet, though."

"Dani," Alyssa call from the other side of the door, "Melissa wants you. Sorry if you were in the middle of something." She smirks as I walk out of the room. I roll my eyes at her and walk down the stairs to Melissa.

"I need you to take the kids to the park. They've been begging and begging to go! Is that okay?" I nod and run back up the stairs.

"We're heading to the park. Anyone want to go? Melissa is staying." I pop my head ito the room to see and uncomfortable Max and a smirkig Alyssa. "Alyssa..." I warn, making her replace her smirk with a small smile.

"Yeah?"

"What'd you do?" I ask suspiciously, looking between the two.

"Oh, I just told Max that if he ever dates you, he should watch out for me and my friends. Not to mention they've all taken karate and are in the top classes." She smirks again.

"That's very sweet, Alyssa, but seriously. Do you really need to chase him away?" I whine.

"Um... I'm right here..."

"We're kinda talking about something important right now." Alyssa says to him and turns back to me. "I'm just trying to protect you. I've only known you for less than a day but I still don't want to see you hurt."

"Thanks, but I'm pretty sure I can handle this on my own." I snap and turn on my heels, grabbing Max's arm and dragging him into the living room. Melissa gives me a weird look but shakes it off.

"Have fun." She smiles, me slightly smiling back. Max takes my hand in his and grabs Seth's hand, who was holding Claire's. I was carrying the new young one in my free arm. I think his name was Jackson and he was one or something like that. I kiss Jackson's cheek, making him giggle. I smile and we walk out of the building.

"Wait, Dani!" Alyssa calls just before Claire shuts the door behind us.

On our way to the park, a elderly couple stop us.

"Hi, we just wanted to say that you two are a lovely couple." The woman smiles. My eyes widen and I look up at Max. His eyes were just as big as mine.

"Oh, uh, we-"

"We have to head off now, but son, don't let her go." The man says and they walk off.

"That was strange." Max whispers in my ear as we near the park. I nod and let the kids run off.

"Just imagine if we held hands all the time." I laugh. He grins and leads me to the swings. We don't release our hands as we sit down. I see Claire bring Jackson up to me.

"He wanted you." She smiles before handing him to me and running off. I finally release Max's grip and hold Jackson with two hands.

"Hey guys!" I smile up at Alec as he jogs over to us. I see Max roll his eyes and look away from him. What's up with him? "Aww, look at the little baby!" Alec coos, tickling Jackson slighty. Jackson giggles and squirms under Alec's touch, making me smile. Max grumbles something under his breath and walks away.

"His name is Jackson." I say. Alec smiles at me, gently taking Jackson from me. I allow him to pick Jackson up and set him on his hip as I stand up.

"I didn't know you talked."

"Only to a few people." I shrug.

"What was up with Max? He seemed pretty angry." Alec asks quietly, looking at Max, who was giving Alec glares. I shrug.

"I don't know. I was kinda wondering that too." I mutter, looking down.

"Well, if you want, I'll help you two take the kids back. I figured you're watching all of them since you're the oldest people here." He smiles, motioning to the kids. I smile back.

"I'd like that. Thank you." I walk over to Max and motion for him to follow me.

"I have a bad feeling about Alec." He motions to Alec, who was cutely playing with Jackson. "You really shouldn't be hanging around with him." I look at Max's face and noticed why he hated Alec. He was jealous.
