He came just fast enough for someone who didn't know his way around town much. I knew for a fact he wouldn't be happy, and to save him from trying to find me through the house, I stepped out in to the cold night to wait for him.
"You'd be surprised at how many parties I've passed by as I drove here." Garrett says as he gets out to walk to me and chuckles. "I almost stopped at one of them, looked pretty invitin' if I do say so myself." I rolled my eyes and hugged my cardigan over me to warm up a bit more. "Oh here, take my jacket." He says as he notices my shivering.
"No, no it's fine. C'mon, let's just get into the car."
"Amelia, just take it." He already has it off and moves his arms around me to put the jacket over my shoulders. "There."
"Thanks." I softly smile and he does as well but holds the gaze longer. "Okay well, I think we should get on goin'."
Once we drive away from the party, there's a sudden pang against the side of my head and I know the alcohol hasn't left my system. "Geez, how much did you drink?"
"Way more than I think I should've." I answer rubbing my temples.
"You probably don't want to go home like that then. We can stop at some small diner if you'd like. We can get something to help your headache." He shrugs and continues looking back and forth between me and the road.
"Is Julia home?"
He scoffs then laughs as if it's obvious. "Yeah, she's home with Peter."
"How do you know?"
"My parents went over there and before we left, you called me and I told them something important came up, so they went with out me."
"Well that's convenient, I guess."
"So you wanna go to the diner then?" He asks. I nod only because I don't feel like seeing anyone else and I could use some time to clear up my mind and stomach from the alcohol.
When we get to the diner, there are barely and cars there, at least in the front where Garrett parks and I'm still holding on to his jacket as we get inside. As soon as we go in I can smell some kind odd sweet smell and it's quickly inhaled, soothing some parts of me.
"Can we just have two cups of coffee please?" Garrett asks the waitress. "How do you like your coffee?" He asks me.
"Cream and sugar please?" I ask for and he nods.
Once she leaves he sighs and looks back at me. "Oh, here's your jacket." I remind myself and take it off. "Thank you again."
"It's no problem," he smiles. After the waitress finally comes back with the coffees he asks me about Harry and if I've talked to him yet.
"Noo." I say holding the word out longer than necessary. "Haven't seen him at all, and I just, I don't know what to do. I talked to one of his friends and he said that Harry had business to take care of."
"Try asking around again tomorrow or something. It's still stupid how he didn't give you a chance to even explain." We go silent for a while until it starts getting awkward enough that I only look down at the lukewarm cup of coffee.
