Jasmine

"Auntie. That man is gonna try and kill me. He tried to run me off the road and everything." I'm on the phone with my aunt Tara and she cursing about how dumb my mama could be  for putting me in danger. She told me that Malaysia and I could live with her, so I'm packing our stuff.  We're going to start a new life over in Colorado far away from this ratchet city.  My doorbell rung and I walked to see a police officer standing there. "Jasmine Smalls?" "Yes?" "You've been served." He handed me a white envelope and walked up. I opened it and read over it. I was being ordered to bring Malaysia in for a dna test for Marcus. Apparently he was trying to establish paternity rights. "Marcus what are you up to?" I asked out loud as I read the letter again. It said if I didn't oblige that I would be arrested. They listed a place to take her to, so I guess I'll take her there in the morning. We won't leave for a couple of days so I'll give him that. He won't get rights within two days.  I haven't spoken to my mama since that day I left her house. She wasn't using her head and he could use her to get to me. I can't have that. "We'll be safe soon baby." I say looking at Malaysia. She was blowing spit bubbles looking at me. She is getting so big, and it amazes me. She sits up and hold her own bottle. Feels like I just had her yesterday.

The next day

I go to the courthouse and let them swab Malaysia and everything else they had to do. I smiled at the lady and took my baby and left after they were done. "We can leave tomorrow." I say to myself as I'm buckling her in the car seat. "Leave to where?" I shuddered when I heard that voice and stood up slowly. "You can't hurt me. We're right in front of this courthouse." I say turning around to face him. He was wearing a three piece beige suit. "I don't wanna hurt you Jasmine. This isn't about you. This is about Malaysia. I'm not on her birth certificate and I would like to be in order to establish paternity rights." He say straightening his tie. "Okay and you had that chance to be. But you chose not to be there." I say getting in my car. He caught the door before I could close. "Do not leave this town with my child Jasmine." He said in a threatening tone. "Excuse me Officer!! He won't let go of my door and I'm trying to leave." I called out to the police office walking up, eating a donut. He looked over at us and came over. "You're not supposed to be around her anyway. You wanna go back to jail? Yeah I know you Marcus. Move along." He said standing there. Marcus smirked at me and let go of my door, walking off. "Thank you Kobe." I say closing my door and driving off. Kobe was the officer who helped me when that idiot tried to have me run off the road. "Who is he kidding? I'm leaving now." I say as I turn on my street and head for my apartments.  I sent a text to my aunt letting her know that I was on the way. Grabbing everything I had packed, I threw it all in the trunk. Malaysia was asleep so I was trying to hurry up so I wouldn't wake her. "Where are you going? The results will be back as early as tomorrow." I saw Marcus walking up. "Marcus leave me alone." I say closing my trunk and getting back in my car. "But Jasmine! You wanted me to be yours so bad. You wanted a family so bad that you broke mine up." He said grabbing my door and yanking it back open. "YOU broke up your own family when you popped up over here feeding me that bullshit. YOU pulled off my clothes and YOU got on top of me and YOU didn't pull out. See the trend in that? Now leave me alone and get off of my door." I say pulling on the door when he pulled out a gun and pointed it at Malaysia. "Get out of this car, take that shit back upstairs, or I will blow her damn brains out." He demanded. My heart started beating fast as I slowly got out of the car and walked around to the trunk. "You would shoot your own baby?" I asked grabbing some of the bags and going back up the steps with them to my apartment. Marcus tucked the gun back and picked Malaysia up out of the car seat. "Hey daddy baby." He cooed as he rocked her. "We're going to be a family just like your mama wanted." He said bumping my shoulder as he walked up the steps and went inside the apartment.
