Raven

"Girl I can't have no baby. That's what my doctor said." I said to Sasha as we stared at the positive pregnancy test on the counter. "That Doctor was wrong home girl cuz that right there says you're going to be a mom. What you gonna do?" She asked me. I shrugged my shoulders as we both just looked. What am I gonna do? Obviously Marcus is the father and if he finds out, he is gonna want to be in the baby's life. I'm not getting an abortion because this baby didn't ask to be here. Under the normal circumstances, I'd be happy as heck right now to be pregnant but I'm not with my husband and this won't be his first child. "You gotta tell Marcus Raven." Sasha said and I nodded. I am going to have to tell him but not right now. I got nine months to do so right? Until then, I gotta figure it a way that I'm going to explain to him that we aren't going to be a family and that we can still co-parent but he probably isn't gonna wanna hear that. I grabbed my phone and took a picture of the test, sending it to my mom. "Home?" Sasha asked and I nodded wrapping the test in some paper towels and placing it in my purse. I had been staying with Sasha while I look for a houses. What am I going to do? We get in my truck and on the way back to the house, I look over to see her with my phone. "What is you doing?" I asked her reaching over for the phone. "I texted Marcus for you. Because I know you wasn't gonna do it." She said letting me the sent message. I groaned in irritation with her. "I was gonna do it, but on my own time. That was foul Sasha. I say pulling into her driveway. "Umhm so I gotta get to the club. I'll see you later." She says jumping out and going to get in her mustang. How the hell she gonna do that then bounce like that? And leave me to get her damn bags out of the car?! I rolled my eyes when I saw my phone lit up with a long message from Marcus. I'm not about to read that. I got out of the truck and popped the trunk so I could take the bags inside. "Hey..are you Raven?" I looked back to see a boy standing there. "No." I say and grab some of the bags. "You are First Lady Raven Williams right!" He asked again making me stop and turn to look at him. "What do you need son?"  I asked placing the bags on the ground. "You don't know me? You don't remember me?" He asked walking up to me. I stare at him and he looks familiar but I shook it off. It couldn't be that. "You're my mom." He looked about 8 years old and I looked around for his mother or any adult but I didn't see one. "I'm sorry baby but I don't have any children." I say and pick up my bags going into the house. "Please? I have nowhere to go." He says and starts crying. I exhale and gesture for him to follow me. "Sit down in the living room." I tell him while I continue to bring the bags in. "Now what's your name?" I ask him sitting on the sofa next to him. "My name is Jayden." He says looking up at me with those big brown eyes. "You know Mariah Grady right?" He asks and now I'm really looking at him because Mariah was my best friend in high school. We said if we ever had kids, we'd be their godmothers. "Where is she?" "She's dead. They put me in a foster home. You can't let me go back. She said you'd take care of me." He said and I nodded because I did indeed say that. "Well. I can't just take you in like that Jayden. I have to go get a lawyer and then take you back to the foster home before I get hit with kidnapping charges." I say and he nodded, pulling a piece of paper from his pocket. "This paper says that my mom wanted you to take care of me. It has your name in it. The people couldn't find you and they threw me in that home." He said, handing me the paper. I read over it and nodded back at him. It did say that her last wish was for me to take care of her son like I promised all those years ago. "Okay Jayden. I'll take care of you. I promise." I say hugging him. "But we still gotta go to these places. You don't have to stay but we just gotta let them know what's going on." I say and he looked down. "What's wrong?" "Those kids. They hurt me in there. They beat on me and bully me." He says lifting up his shirt to show the bruises on his back. They showed up purple, blue and black on his light skin. "Oh hell nawl. Come on." I say changing into my nikes and grabbing my keys.
