SLASHING THROUGH YET ANOTHER INSURGENT, Kylo Ren thought angrily, Where is he?

They had sent out their distress signal earlier, but no support had arrived, and the Sith apprentice was beginning to grow weary. A First Order mining colony in the Unknown Regions had been brewing with rebellion for some time, and the Supreme Leader had sent Kylo Ren with a small number of stormtroopers to reinstate submission.

Initially, he had hoped that his presence would be enough to intimidate the people, but one overzealous citizen had been foolish enough to challenge him. Kylo Ren had been quick to execute him, but the others were equally as quick to respond. Now a major skirmish had broken out and countless miners were swarming his small battalion of stormtroopers.

To say that Kylo Ren was angry would be a massive understatement. He was there to instill fear, but now he was backed into a corner by a crowd of filthy slaves. The miners had learned to not draw too close to his blade and chose to barrage them with blasterfire from behind a broken-down transport truck and the surrounding buildings.

A shot grazed Kylo Ren's arm and seared through his skin. With a hiss, he threw out a hand and the offending shooter was jerked from his cover and into the path of the swinging lightsaber. But that was only one of the many insurgents and Ren knew that he and his few troopers could not continue their stand for much longer.

Suddenly, rapid blasterfire rained down from the sky and the rebels began scattering and falling to the ground until none were left in the small plaza. A tense silence filled the air as the First Order soldiers waited for more shots. Then, Kylo Ren heard the familiar, burning sound of a jetpack overheard.

With a sigh, he stalked out from behind his cover until a dark figure landed before him. "Fett," Kylo Ren's robotic voice greeted tersely, "you're late."

Adorned in black Mandalorian armor, the mercenary simply scoffed and spoke in an equally deep and distorted voice, "I may have been the closest support to your signal, but coming to your rescue was no easy feat. I had to back out of a job on Endor, so you owe me."

"You will be well compensated, as always," Ren said.

As the two masked figures made their way past the now charred stage, Fett quipped, "So, I take it that your 'menial errand' was not as straightforward as you had expected."

Part of Ren wished that his glare could be seen from behind his own mask--he had used those very words earlier to gripe about the assignment--but then his embarrassment would also be apparent. The thought of needing rescuing left a bad taste in his mouth.

"Shut up, Fett," he said.

The younger stormtroopers shifted uncertainly, unused to hearing a disrespectful word spoken to the Force-wielder. But the more experienced troopers were accustomed to the banter and quips that often passed between the two.
