─────── ⋆ ☾ ⋆ ───────"I THOUGHT YOU GOT RID OF HIM," Cassus Fett hissed back at Kylo Ren.
He held up his hands, his mind racing to think of how Sol was alive. Surely the fall was enough to kill someone. "I thought I did, too. I threw him off of a balcony."
"The Chiss are more durable than most humanoids." The bounty hunter's brow furrowed. "Why did you not just kill him with your bare hands?"
"I didn't have time. I had to get to you."
"There are fast ways to kill someone, Ren!"
"Well..." He scrambled for the right words. "It felt more satisfying to throw him."
Cassus gaped at him and her brow lowered even more. "That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. That's not how you kill someone, Ren. You're smarter than that!"
Ren opened his mouth, but she went on.
"'It felt more satisfying'. That's what amateurs say when they botch up kills!"
She gave an short, exasperated huff before shifting closer to the edge of the wall. "It's good to see you, too, Sol," she called nonchalantly, "but I'm afraid I have to go."
Cassus looked past Kylo Ren, and he followed her gaze to the direction of their escape. It was only a short distance to the loading docks.
"If we run, we can make it," he sent to Cassus, turning back to look at her.
She nodded and adjusted her grip on her blaster. "I'll cover us from behind. Stay with Meri; I'm not sure how fast she can move."
It would be close, but they were running out of time. The ship would only stay docked for so long.
"I've heard legends," Sol called, making Cassus roll her eyes, "but I never believed them."
Fett edged down the wall closer to Ren and Meri, and she slowly rose from her crouch, getting ready to move.
Sol's voice seemed to get louder, more punctuated. "I certainly never expected to hold the Darksaber in my hands."
The air stilled, and Kylo Ren and Cassus Fett tensed.
The Darksaber.
"Cassus," Ren said, his voice in a warning.
But he knew she would not listen as her jaw clenched and eyes flared.
"He has the Darksaber, Ren," she said, her words low and dangerous.
The Darksaber. Her father's weapon. Mandalore's weapon.
Kylo Ren could remember when he first saw the saber. The First Order had been employing Fett for about three months, and he had been working with the bounty hunter for one.
