CASSUS WAS TEMPTED TO SHOOT THE DOOR to her assigned quarters when a knock woke her. She had been given the morning to rest and adjust to the planet's time schedule. Most would be happy to receive such an irregular generosity, but Fett knew that this only meant that she would not get much time to sleep in the coming mission.
The disruptor at the door did not have to wait long; donning armor had become quick and natural for Cassus. Most would consider it uncomfortable and stifling, but the Mandalorian felt most uncomfortable without the armor. It was simply too vulnerable.
Sliding the helmet over her head, she opened the door. One of the First Order's senior technicians stood before her, his jaw was clenched but his hands fiddled with the sleeve of his uniform.
"Vox," Fett greeted. This was not the first time the officer had come to her door.
"Fett," he said curtly, "Lord Ren is...dismantling equipment and I need you to go deal with him."
With a sigh, Cassus followed him down the hall. "What is it this time?"
"I don't know, but he had a meeting with General Hux earlier this morning."
Cassus groaned, her helmet making it sound like radio feedback. She knew that Ren's anger was likely to be intense. Both she and the Force-wielder despised Hux, his every word dripping with the most condescending tone.
It did not take them long to reach their destination. Vox led her to a series of conference rooms still under construction. However, unlike much of the semi-completed base, this area was not bustling with workers. No one else passed; no other footsteps sounded on the metal floor.
But then a faint yell carried down the walkway. The distorted echo grew louder as they approached and was soon followed by a loud crash. Fett wrinkled her nose at the smell of burning and melting metal filled the air.
Finally, she caught sight of a faint red glow emanating from a nearby room. Vox's steps faltered as they neared, and with a tense nod, he turned on his heel and left.
Cassus approached the doorway slowly. The sight was not an unfamiliar one.
Kylo Ren paced the room relentlessly, his head down and breath heavy and ragged. The lightsaber crackled angrily in his clenched hand drawn to his side. Several seconds of pacing occurred as he likely brooded over whatever Hux had said. Another yell rang out as he stopped by an already semi-mangled control board. Raising his lightsaber, Ren hacked away in a melee of fury until the energy subsided for a moment.
Fett waited, leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed, and allowed him to go through this cycle a few times. It was best to let the excess anger be spent on the equipment before interrupting his tantrums.
