(Based off an AU where everyone has half of a unique necklace and their soulmate has the other half. The necklace heats up the closer to their soulmate they are and when the person is ready, they can go and search for their soulmate.)

Roman played with the chain of the necklace that hung around his neck. The strange shape of the charm on the end of the chain was familiar to him, each bump and swirl memorised, each scratch from when he was younger. It all brought back memories. And he was going to find who had the other half. He was ready.

He started at the only place that his charm had ever heated up, the local cafe. He passed it and carried on down the street, delighted as the chain continued to slowly warm. Turning a corner, he kept hold of the metal, his only warmth as it began to snow. A few wrong turns later, he felt the necklace heat up more. It almost burned his hand.

He traced unfamiliar streets until the heat became unbearable. Ripping it off from around his neck, he threw it into a snowdrift, watching it sink. However, as he stared, he heard a noise from a nearby alley. A yelp of pain and a noise of metal hitting the ground. He took his necklace, wrapping it in his jacket, before exploring the noise.

A boy, about his age, sat at the end of the alleyway, clutching his hand. His necklace lay on the ground, turning a small pile of snow to water. Roman approached it, quickly moving it so he could look at the charm properly. The strange shape of the charm on the end of the chain was familiar to him, each bump and swirl memorised but reversed. As he held the two necklaces together, the identical charms stuck together magnetically, forming a heart.

The mysterious person watched with the same expression of awe that Roman had plastered on his face. He held out his hand for Roman to shake, which he did.

"Roman."

"Virgil." The stranger said, smiling slightly.

"Do you... have a home?" Roman asked, noticing his tattered clothing and blankets. Virgil shook his head.

"Then why don't you come home with me?"
