The morning light shinned in Thorin's room. The dwarf was the first to open his eyes and looked down beside him. Freya was still sound asleep beside him. Some time in the night she had shifted position and moved her head off Thorin's chest and replaced her arm underneath her head for support. He lightly, stroked her hair, and placed a gentle kiss against her forehead, careful not to wake her as he climbed off the bed.
The Dwarf king got dressed and heard a soft knock on the door. He opened it to see Gloin and his son Gimli. " Gloin? What are you doing here?" Thorin questioned.
"Aren't you attending the meeting about this Ring of power the elves have claimed has been found?" The elder dwarf asked.
"That's tomorrow Gloin," Thorin clarified, glancing behind him one last time to see Freya was still sound asleep and he shut the door behind him.
"Not inviting your lass to come out?" Gloin pressed, finding it odd the king didn't want to spend every second with her since he found her in this cursed valley.
"No...she needs her rest...shes--, she's not sleeping well..." Thorin trailed off, not really wanting to discuss this matter. "I have something I need to do. I'll catch up with you later." The three of them went their separate ways. Thorin wandered through the forest, looking for his daughters. He knew it was going to take time before they accept him, if at all. He trudged down the path a little further and eventually found the two of them, practicing battle techniques. Thorin inhaled a breath before approaching them.
Thora and Thea's blades clanged as they swung their swords at each other. Thora had her sword above her head, ready to strike her sister down when she saw the hesitant look from Thea and she lowered her weapon and turned around to see what had startled her younger sister.
"What are you doing here?" Thora growled only to look to her side when Thea nudged her in the side.
"You don't have to be rude. He's our father." Thea hissed.
"He's not our father. We don't even know him." She hissed back and then turned to look back at the Dwarf. "Why are you here?" Thora demanded once again.
"I came to talk. Your mother tells me you both have been trained by Men and...Elves in sword fighting, but not by you're kin. I thought you two may want to learn strategies from someone that is your kin." Thorin suggested.
"Where is our mother?" Thea spoke this time.
"Your mother is resting." Thorin replied, not failing to notice the knowing looks that both gave when they heard this and to the Kings disappointment, realizing that this clearly happened lots in his absence - the nightmares.
"I suppose you expect us to call you our father now?" Thora questioned bluntly and Thea cursed in her mind, her sister could be so arrogant at times.
"No. I don't. I haven't earned that right. You girls can call me Thorin if you like."
"You don't expect us to call you, father?" Thea asked curiously.
The Dwarf shook his head at her. " No. Your whole life, you and your sister have grown up without one and I suddenly appear in your life. I can't even imagine, how you two feel. All I know is that for some insane reason the gods above decided I deserve a second chance and brought me back to the three of you. So, why don't you two show me what you have learned and lets just see how good you really are?"
Thora and Thea both gripped their weapons tight, as Thorin brought out Orcrist, and Thora made the first move at the Dwarf. Thorin instantly blocked her blow and pushed her blade off of his and quickly had to move his sword to block Thea's oncoming swing and the three of them continued to move around trying to knock Thorin's sword out of his hand.
