V

I stood by watching Joey playing in the water.

I didn't really understand why we were here. Joey said something about, enjoying the rest of summer before it was gone. It didn't really matter to me.

My only problem was, I have never exposed this much skin in my life. I was just wearing swimming shorts.

"Hey, E.T. Can we talk for a minute?" Ricardo asked. He was also wearing shorts, but, he also had on a sleeveless shirt.

"Sure. But, my name is V. I mean..." I looked around first then whispered, "My name is V."

"Yeah, I'm already aware of that."

"So, what was it you wanted to talk about?"

"How did you get here? I mean, I'm not trying to rush you back to your planet or anything... I'm just curious."

"I crash landed on a space ship. But, don't worry, I made it out alive. Joey was there to help me."

"I see," he twisted his mouth. "But, why'd you leave?"

"I don't like my brethern, and apparently, they don't like me either. So I ran away. But, it's also because they tried to do unorthodox things to me."

"Unorthodox, like what?"

"They'd try to sacrifice me to our higher being quite a few times when we were youngsters. They also kept me locked up, telling me that I was dangerous to society." I scratched the back of my neck. "But, I think the sacrificing stuff was just a joke. Still it was scary."

"When you say brethern, you mean... Your brothers? Family?" He asked.

"I mean my brethern."

"Brothers?"

"Yes, brethern."

"So, you don't want to destroy mankind and dissect our brains?"

"No, why would you think that?"

"I don't know. Maybe I've been watching too many sci fi movies."

"Okay, guys, let's eat lunch, before the crabs steal it." Joey waddled out of the water.

I waved to her, smiling wide and she waved back.

She opened up the basket, and handed out a soft type of food wrapped in a protective layer of paper towel.

"Oh, what type of human food is this?" I asked with excitement. "It's really soft."

"It's a sandwich," she answered.

"Ooohhhh." I bit into it and it was soft. "What's on it?"

"Chicken, swiss, and mayonnaise."

"I only know what one of those things are."

As I continued to eat my sandsmich, a creature walked up to me and stared.

It was red and round. It had black beady eyes and large hands. "Hi." I waved.

I patted it's smooth back, and it reached for my hand. It caught my hand in it's two fingers and pinched.

"Ow!" I yelped. "Bad! Bad!"

"It's a crab." Joey said.

"I think it likes you," Ricardo added.

"Bad crab! Bad crab!" I scolded him. I stuffed the rest of my sandsmich in my mouth and reached for the crab. But, everytime I reached for it, it backed away. "Don't be scared, I won't hurt you." My mouth was still full of food.

Each time I stepped closer, it got further away. I even ended up chasing it all over the beach.

"Ok, V, it's time to go." Joey announced. "So finish up your feud with Mr. Crabs."

I caught him when he was in the midst of struggling to squeeze in between two rocks.

"I have acquired you!" I raised him in the air and pretended he was the lion off of that movie, who's title slipped my mind. "I'm going to name you now."

He wiggled his beady eyes and snapped his hands at me.

"I shall name you... Pincher."

"C'mon V." Joey walked over to me. "It's time to go. But, first, I have something for you."

She opened her hand to reveal a weird arrangement of shells on a string.

"What is it?" I asked.

"It's a cowrie shell necklace," she leaned forward and placed it around my neck.

My cardiovascular organ began pounding again. I backed away as soon as she finished. It didn't help that she was wearing that revealing bathing suit either.

"It's beautiful."

"I know right?" She smiled.

I wasn't really sure if I was talking about the necklace or her. "I gave Ricardo one too. He said it was nice."

Her attention moved to my new companion. "Who's this?"

"His name is Pincher. And you can't make me put him back! You have to let me keep him since you didn't let me get a gorilla."

"Ok, whatever, V." She patted his shiny back.

"Why does he always pinch me and not you?"

"Maybe because he likes me more than you," she suggested. "Make sure you keep him in water, and feed him. If you're going to be taking care of him. You have to take full responsibility for him."

"Ok, I will!" I hugged him. He didn't seem to enjoy the affection and pinched me. "Ow!"
