V

"Here you go," Joey handed me an ice cream cone with white ice cream.

"Yay! Thank you!" I beamed and took it from her. "What kind of ice cream is this, again?"

   "Vanilla."

When I awoke this morning, I told myself that today would be the day that I confessed my feelings to Joey. I want to be with her, I want to be her beloved.

I just had to find the perfect time to say it.

We were at an amusement park and I was having lots of fun. I pointed to a fountain with sparkly water and golden pieces of currency at the bottom.

It reminded me of when a few months ago, I was in the water fountain and splashed water on Joey and her computer.

"Joey!" I tugged on her hoodie and pointed towards it. "Let's go in there!"

"I'm really not in the mood, V. Why don't you go in there by yourself."

I didn't want to play in the water all by myself, so I stopped mentioning it and finished eating my ice cream.

We sat down on a bench and I thought that now would be a perfect time to say something. After a while of summoning up courage, I reached for her hand and she moved it away to throw her napkins in a nearby trashcan.

That was a fail.

I searched for another oppurtunity and it seemed to have walked right up to me.

"Would you two like to have your fortunes told?" An elderly woman with bad posture walked up to us.

"Fortunes? What's that?" I asked, looking into her cloudy brown eyes.

   "I will tell your future."

"Yes please!" I exlaimed and turned to Joey who didn't seem as excited as I was. "Joey, let's get our futures told."

"No. I don't think thats--" but before she could decline, I pulled her along and we followed the lady into a dark tent with a table and lights set up inside.

"I want to go first!" I said as I sat in my seat.

"Hold out your hands and close your eyes." The woman instructed and I did just that. She began to circle her fingers around in my palms.

I couldn't help but laugh a few times because it tickled.

Once she was done reading my palms, she let me open my eyes.

She didn't seem pleased at all. On her face was a frown.

   "What's wrong?"

"I see something terrible in your future. It will bring you great pain."

"Pain? Oh no." I instantly regretted my decision to get our future's told.

"But, you won't die. At the end of it all, you will be happy." She smiled after telling the good news.

I didn't really know how to react. Should I have been scared because of the potential pain and sorrow I would experience or be glad that I'll be happy at the end.

Next, she read Joey's palms.

"I see something terrible in your future as well, young lady. You will have to make a huge decision that could change your life forever."

"At least your fortune isn't as bad as mine." I said as I stood from my seat.

"Thanks." She said to the woman and placed a piece of american currency down on the table.
